My daughter is 7yrs old (8 in Nov) and takes a size 7/8. Is there a more likely then not chance that by winter she'll fit into a 9/10?
This is obviously our first child..I know kids grow at different rates and sizes vary by company. But I wanted to buy a Lot of pants and such for school from Ebay and I'm not sure if I should get winter size things 9/10?

I would buy them and if they dont fit buy then you keep them for next year. But buy like 7 pair in the size she is now. so if she still is in the same size you will have some clothes for her.

I have a 10 year old daughter. She wore size 7/8 for a couple years, but when she did grow, she just moved to a size 8 when 7's were too small. In our area, we don't have a size 9/10 in our stores so I am not familiar with that size. After size 7/8, the next size is 8 followed by 10 then 12 or can be size 8/10, 10/12, 12/14. I am only familiar with whole number sizes after size 7. If your daughter currently takes a size 7/8 I would first try clothes listed as size 8. Size 10 is considerably longer and unless she is very tall, they will probably be too big for her. However, it is possible she'll have a growth spurt. I suggest to try a lot of clothes that are all listed as size 8 with no 7/8. She may be OK if some tops are 8/10 and can maybe wear them for 2 years.

My daughter grows every winter so I don't buy a lot for the start of school. But, no matter what, I usually buy one size up for the next season

I would consider the fact as to when her last growth spurt happened in making that decision. Also look at the issue of different brands fit differently. My best friends twins are in 3 different sizes based on what brand clothing they are wearing that day!

I would buy them bigger regardless, especially with the great adjustable waists they have now. If they're waaaay too big you can always have them altered or save them for the next year! But if you buy them too small and they don't fit, you've wasted your money!

That said, my kids still wear their ages and smaller. It's not usual they fit into bigger stuff!
