My sister used to cut herself and my Dad used to suggest she cut his arms instead! That really upset me!
Anyway, she now walks around with massive scarring on both her forearms and people do look at her, who knows what goes through their minds?
If you are carrying toxic thoughts and crap feelings around with you, get them out of your system by writing them down... you could even be creative and try and rhyme (I did that for years when I was an alcoholic and I have some amazing poetry/ songs - something to look back on and see how far Ive come!)
Is there someone that you can talk to? If not, keep a diary, and same thing - write it down and get it out.....
Lastly, think positive thoughts..... when that is hard, find one thing, something ie. what a beautiful day or 'I have a beatutiful smile' and focus on it.... And remember: you are loved by others no matter what you think!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Safe Haven powered by enviSion power board is a good si site to join.... It is the biggest one out there and most helpful.
it is great that you want to stop the self harm, and realize that it is not helping you cope with the depression.
Other things you can try doing is to call a good friend, get some exercise, write down your feelings, find a hobby, watch a funny movie, go to the mall. Dance, crank up the music, go for a drive, or bike ride.
Try redirecting your energy elsewhere. Your not alone with the self harm, and many people struggle with the same thing.
Get support for yourself too, and remember those feelings of si will decrease.

I'm really sorry you are going through this. I cut for 2 years; several times a day. It completely consumed my life.
But if you are ready to quit; that is the biggest step.
What helped for me what to write down my "new coping things" A list of things that you do whenever you want to cut. Make a list of 10
Example : 1. Take a shower
2. Walk the dog
3. Play your favorite video game
4. Write in a diary
ect.
Then whenever you feel the need to cut; start at one and complete each one until you dont want to cut anymore. And if you get down to 10 and you still want to cut; start at one again. Some days I ended up taking 5 or 6 showers.
But I got through it and you can too!
And you will want to throw away your cutting 'tools' or 'kit'.
I know that is going to be really difficult. but if you are really going to stop; you need to get rid of it.
Some Sites:
www.recoveryourlife.com
www.psyke.org <---they have a great forum
GOOD LUCK. Stay Strong.
You can get through it.

Over the last five years I had begun to have increasingly withdraw into a downward spiral of depression..
But now with the method I can fully focus my energy and thoughts into a decisive line on how to make my life better constantly. And it works like magic! I'm beginning to attract people to me once again and things have just been looking up since then.

Cutting is never a way of coping.
You need to get some help quickly. Talk to your internist (or if you're under 18, have your parents get you help) to get a recommendation for a psychiatrist.

yea cutting doesn't help much, the way i stay away from my depression is watching anime or reading manga. it keeps my mind off the real world and i can look forward to something interesting. writing poetry might help, it helps you let out how you feel but at the same time it can make you feel worse becasue it makes you think about your problems it just depends on what type of things help you.

Cutting yourself is NOT coping. It is a way of "feeling in control" of SOMETHING in your life. Please search for help. I don't personallly know any sites, but I'm sure there are hotlines out there and adults that love you who will help.
