Sure, it's a sign of not being human....

Sociopaths do not feel a connection to others after being severely abused by others. They laugh while hurting and killing people...

I don't laugh at other's misfortune. If the person was or is a real sh*t then I get this self-righteous feeling of ha they got what they deserved but I don't really laugh. P.S. your avatar looks like it was taken from "The Ring" really creepy. (just an observation)

Honestly I've never done that in my life. I go too far the other way, I feel horrible for everyone in bad situations. When I was a child my father refused to take me out for walks at night because whenever I saw a homeless person I would cry and beg him to give them money.
Also, when someone "feels poorly," it denotes illness.

I can't help laughing at other people's misfortunes (human nature I suppose) but then I feel really terrible afterwards and imagine if it had happened to me or someone in my family and everyone was laughing at them.

Usually I don't catch myself laughing at this particular circumstance...but it is likely that everybody occasionally does it. We're humans. We aren't perfect and sometimes we can't help but laugh at others who are in a worst situation than ourselves. Of course it's horrible to do so...

Dearie, I wish I had an answer for you, but you see...I don't do that! Why? Because I choose not to. You can, you know. You can make up your mind that you won't allow that to happen, and you can make it stick! I'm always thinking that there but for the grace of God go I.

Once I accidentally hit the girl I was babysitting. I tried to apologize, but just kept laughing. Her sister was laughing too, but the girl was in pain. I felt so bad but I couldn't help laughing.
