I don't allow my 10 yr old daughter to have a myspace. I don't because i believe why does a 10 yr old needs with a myspace page?! She says many of the kids in her class and school have one. But guess what i don't care, she can't and won't have one till she's about 16. When i think she's mature enough to handle it. I didn't even want her to have a cell phone, but she does only for emergencies because of activitys is this so wrong? Im i really being too strict?!

NO!!!! Way to go Mom! Finally, a mom with sense. Kids dont need cell-phones, emails or myspaces. Ok so other kids in her school have myspace accounts. So what! Keep it up!

She's only 10!

If all the kids in her school really have a myspace page, the parents need to check out the site because you have to be at least 16 to have one. Also, the page has gotten a lot more personal since it first started. People are posting things that 10 year olds don't need to see. I don't think you are being unreasonable at all.

I think you are being very reasonable. There is no reason a 10 year old needs a myspace page. I'm 22 and I have one, but its simply to share photos and updates with friends and family that I normally would have trouble keeping in contact with.

Internet predators are VERY real. My 13 year old cousin got sucked into an online dating relationship with a 23 year old. It was all very messy, and he was a sick freak. At least she was never stupid enough to meet him in person.

On the internet, its simply too easy to pretend to be someone that you arent.

Ever seen "To Catch a Predator"? They have people online pretending to be young teens, and then set up a meeting with an older guy. When the guy shows up at the house, he is confronted by a news crew, and police. I just watched one last night, and they caught more than 50 guys in 3 days, and that was in the same city!!! Scary!!!

I would advise learning to use the parental controls on your computer. Talk to her friends parents, and make sure they know your rules. Try to explain to your daughter WHY you make these rules, even though she will probably think its stupid.

You are not being too strict, you are being a wise mother, and more people should be protecting their children like this.

Youre 10 year old has a cell phone? Good hell.

Yeah I think you are waaaaaaaaay to strick. Loosen up a bit.

If you ever break down on the My Space I would make sure you have full control. Ie she doesnt know her password, you do. She can only allow people to see her profile that you accept. The 50,000 question drill. She cant look up anybodies profile that isnt on her friends list ect. Basically anybody on her friends list it would be easier to pick up the phone can call and say hi. It would be much quicker.

Have a good day. I think you are a good mom, who needs a myspace page at 10? They didnt have the internet at 10 when I was little, amazingly I actually found something to do without myspace. What happend to riding bikes and going swimming with your friends?

You MUST be 14 to have a myspace, it's the law. There are plenty of predators out there, don't let them get to your daughter. If she says her friends have MySpaces, tell her they're breaking the law. Maybe buy her a Webkinz, which is a lot safer and it's also a social site online.

Like, once, my dad's company made a fake myspace to teach kids not to use them, and the myspace listed her as a 14 year old girl, and they got tons of friend requests from strangers.

I don't think you are being strict at all, besides my space dose not allow any kids under the age of 14 have a web page the only reason so many of these kids have them is because they lie about their age, if you fell guilty about being to strict you could tell her exactly what i just said and you can prove it her by going the website and going to q&a, hope this helps

Your not being to strict, my daughter is about to turn 11 and I won't let her on myspace and I monitor her very closely when she is on the computer. There are way to many creeps out there! I won't let her have a cell phone either. Everyone on here will have a different opinion on this, in the end it is up to you to do what you think is best!

I think this mom is smart! Kids have too many privileges these days and have cellphones glued to their ears - and butts planted in seats all day either at school or at computers at homes.

You're not too strict. You're more than reasonable. My 12 yr. old sister was having porn sent to her over the Internet and her language was bad enough to make a sailor blush. There's no way to really control what your child does on the Internet, and it's scary.

You are being a great mom!!! Myspace can be a very dangerous place for anyone. People place info about themselves and do not realize who is reading this info and what those people may do with that info they obtain. Some even put their full address and a calendar of what they are going to do each day....how stupid!!! You are your daughter's caretaker and leader....you are doing what you are suppose to do....leading her into a safe life!!! Your daughter is not mature enough to decide what is good for her....that's why you're making her decisions for her for now!!! Great job!!
