The best naturopathic remedy currently known is a combination of Glucosamine and Chondroitin. These are made from shrimp and shark cartilage respectively and therefore not an herbal supplement. Also frequently used or combined with these are MSM a mineral supplement, vitamin C though what the effect there is I don't know, and white willow bark, which is a natural source of aspirin.

Remember the greatest number of prescription and over-the-counter medications are also combinations made from herbal and mineral sources found in nature, they have just been tested and refined to give the most effect with the least side effect.

I often use naturopathic & or homeopathic treatments as requested, but it is important to understand that herbal does not neccessarily mean safe. Frequently, patients are admitted to emergency departments at hospitals due to interactions between herbal cures or interaction between herbal cures and other medications. Be sure to research the adverse effects first, especially in someone over 60 who may have complicating medical issues.

An example is white willow bark often used for arthritis, causes thinning of the blood, and can result in gastro-intestinal bleeding.

Aloe Vera is a natural anti-inflamatory. Research the brand you use. with herbal remedies you often get what you pay for. Be sure it is organic.
