If it's the 4 cyl (22re) see if the timing chain has been replaced. The timing chains are good for around 100-150k miles. It's usually a little plastic guide that wears out and makes a rattle, they make a replacement that uses a steel one.
Other than that, those engines are pretty much bullet proof.
For the V6(3VZ-E) there was a head gasket recall. Use the VIN number and call a dealer to check and see if this was done.
There was also a recall on the steering relay rod. The dealer will fix this for free. Details: http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=828456&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=365&fpart=1
One easy thing to do to see if it has any problems is to check the computer. All that is required for this is a paperclip. Details: http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/codes/index.html
As far as mileage, I have 246,000 miles on my 1990 4x4 truck and still drive it every day. It also gets used offroad, so it hasn't had an easy life. These things are durable!

I have several Toyota products with mileage above 200,000.
When the engine has problems, you can replace the head gasket or swap the engine with a low-mileage engine from Japan.
Most problems are cosmetic like paint and upholstery.
'92 truck could be $2000 or higher. If it has premium features like 4x4 and extended cab, lower mileage, good paint, etc. -- maybe $3,000.
I don't know much about their 4x4 package. If you offroad, you might need some Baja racing enhancements.
Good luck.

4cyl is easier to maintain than 6cyl.

According to Kelly Blue Book less than $5000 dollars; however, good luck on finding one at that price. Used cars are getting to be highway robbery nowadays...With a Toyota, you never have to worry about mileage. They are dependable, hold their value, and are economical. Not to mention, affordable...My aunt's Corolla lasted her well over 300,000 miles. I would say expect mileage to be between 100-200K...Not a big factor. Do your research...It might not be bad to look at a later model. Remember to ask not only mileage, but about aciddents, check insurance rates, etc. Be careful and good luck!!
