Ok first things first, to be any of the things that you mentioned, you must be a police officer. No way around it. You start off on patrol (regular police officer) and after you gain experience and knowledge, can try to be a K9 officer or SWAT team member.

K9 units are police officers that are trained in handling dogs, namely one dog, their partner. You work with the dog on a daily basis, training it and building up the bond between the two of you.

K9 dogs will normally work around 5 years before they are "retired". It depends on where you are as to wether the dog stays with you or is given to somebody that has land for the dog to run around and simply be a dog.

If you quit the job, you lose the dog. It will not be given to you. Most K9's cost around 10 thousand dollars to buy and train so if you quit, the dog will be given to another handler.

You can become a SWAT team member after several years on the police force. They take guys that are expereinced, in good physical shape, mature and usually have some sort of background in firearms or their usage. Unless you work for a large city or large county, most SWAT members are a part time basis, they are regular officers first then use their SWAT training when ness.

Something that you might want to do, as it will greatly help you out. Join the military for a few years before becoming an officer. You will get training in firearms, you will get disciplne, learn the rank structure and learn teamwork. Majority of agencies look very favorably upon prior service members because of their work ethic and lower issues with problems.

To become a SWAT team member you have to work as a patrol officer for a department that either is large enough to have their own SWAT teams or sends officer to a regional SWAT team. SWAT isw not like on TV. You are not just a SWAT officer. You do your normal police work assignment unless called out for service or extra training. Larger or better paying departments often require at least 60 semester hrous from an accredited college. An degree in RHIM is fine, no dpeartmetn cares or moves you up on a hiring list because you have a certain degree. To make it toe SWAT you have to be an exemplary officer and in great physical condition. You also have to be able to work with a team. Nothing to do with previous to becoming a cop education. This includes being a sniper in the military, completely different than working SWAT.

I'll bet that you can be a junuior cadet throughout your teen years and make a special request to work with a K9 unit
You'll at least get familiar with the career that way you can make an informed descision at a more appropriate time
*note* I'm not saying you are too young to choose your career.
I am saying that you need to smell the roses before you plant your garden.
in ten years time

You could even volunteer at the local police station
things will become clearer for you in the next few years. I know a few years sounds like a life sentence now
consider this:
what did you want when you were ten? or 7? or 4?
see where I'm going with this?
life ALWAYS "SEEMS DIFFERENT" than it is in practice
That's why professional atheletes practice
so that their skills are refined for gameday
best of luck to you,

In order to be part of a SWAT team you have to be in some type of law enforcement field. Like FBI, ATF, DEA, or you have to start off as a police officer. Once you are an officer then you can put in to be a SWAT guy. And, you can be a K9 officer and be in SWAT also.

If you don't want to be a police officer, how do you plan to be a K-9 officer? K-9 officers ARE police officers. In most K-9 units, the dog retires before the human. When that happens, the human usually has the option of buying the dog from the department.

Confusing question but I finally figured it out.Yes you can be a K-9 unit officer and then become a swat officer and still be a K-9 officer.

It depends on the department about keeping the dog.

In most Police Departments, you have to be a patrol officer for a few years before going on to a specialized unit (like SWAT or K-9) CHECK WITH THE SPECIFIC DEPARTMENT YOU WANT TO WORK WITH. CALL THEM UP, YOU CAN GET ALL YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED AND MORE! I suggest LAPD ( they started the 1st SWAT team)!
