I really depends on the size of the congregation and the number of responsibility's he has. A pastor of a small country church of 50 or so can have time to work a job but when you start getting into the larger congregations where there is so much responsibility with visiting the sick and so on then work a job just is not possible at that point his needs should be met by the church, this will depend on location. A lot of pastor don't care about the monetary benefits of the ministry as it is a giving job, you don't become a pastor because you want to make money.

The cost will vary from Church to Church. There are small churches and there are big mega churches. If a small church cannot support the Pastor, then he will have to be employed to support himself. Sometimes this happens. My Pastor did.

In 1 Tim 5:17-18, it states "The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching. For the Scriptures says, "Do not muzzle the ox while it is treading out the grain." and "The worker deserves his wages."

I Cor. 9:14 - "In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel."

We give bonuses on Pastor Appreciation Day and at Christmas and Easter, as well as his birthday.

It's a good question. I think it should have something to do with the size of the congregation, and also the number of hours the church operates. Some churches have more than one or two services, and also a bible study midweek, among other programs the pastor may head. Then, you might add some hours for preparation of sermons, like schoolteachers get in their pay.

By the way, Jesus did not work as a carpenter DURING his 3 year ministry on earth. He worked as a carpenter and then CEASED working as a carpenter to do a 3 year ministry. So to the individual who thinks Jesus had a job outside of teaching, that's not biblical.

I think it's a form of hatred and jealousy when people get angry at pastors who are rich. I think pastors should be free to earn as much as they can.

In my opinion, it isn't how much they have, it's what they do with it that counts. I would rather see a person of God have a lot of money with which they can live a good life and help others.

I think a lot of pastors (probably most!) earn too little. Like childcare workers, social workers, and teachers, people whose life work is to help other people tend to be not as well paid as people whose work revolves around corporate business. Sad but true.

I think that they should do it out of the goodness of their heart and their desire to share the word of God.... so nothing. I am mormon, and in the mormon church nobody gets paid... nobody. Everyone has a full time job along with their church responsibilities. I think that that is the way that is should be. Then you know that when you go to church on Sunday you are hearing what people truly feel and want to teach you, not what will make them earn the most money!

Nothing which is what "I" get paid. If one is said to be CHOSEN by the Lord to teach and guide others it should not be a JOB for X amount of dollars but should be an HONOR to serve the Lord in this capacity. My belief has and will always BE that the Lord is not a COMMODITY someone should ever USE in anyway financially. Jesus said it best. Go sell all that you have and follow ME. For MY money and possessions I "work" like everyone else and if I help someone in the Lord it is for FREE.........

Pastors should make $0 per year in their efforts to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Did you know that all local bishops, teachers, secretaries, musicians, missionaries and administrators in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are a completely unpaid lay ministry?

We take time out from our own occupations to serve our fellow man. That's is in keeping with the Spirit of Jesus Christ.

I don't think a pastor should be expected to get just by. This is not fair as then they are worrying about making ends meet when they should have their mind clear to work for the congregation. In a church that can afford it, I think they should get more than enough (depends on the bills) and also enough to be able to go on vacations.

Nothing.

men should not be paid to teach you things that the gods give them for free. they should do it because they want to help you.

in the case of the full time pastors that are in the church 24/7 to serve their community. they should get some living expenses from the church. but nothing extravagant.

if your pastor is driveing a lexus and you are driving a beat up chevy..SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG.

Depends on the church...

My pastor gets around 30,000 a year and free housing. The only bills he has to pay for is the electric. (Unless he get cable, car payment, etc.)
