Can anyone explain why the Mother of a Knight of our Realm did not show him how to eat with his mouth closed. Sir Alex Ferguson is shown regularley with about a weeks chewing gum in his mouth which he cannot close to chew, this he throws on the ground when the game finishes, please tell him someone. I wonder if he eats his haggis and neaps the same way?

Bestowing 'Sir' on him will not in any way make him less common. Look at the Honours List and THINK how many pointless and self-centred people are on it. What have they done to improve society? Nothing. Go out into the streets, the care homes, the hospices, the soup kitchens, the hostels, the cardboard boxes, the people who spend all night rescuing and feeding cats and dogs and people, the people who live on bugger all in order to help other desperate people ... Alex Ferguson! What is he worth! Don't even waste your time asking about why he eats with his mouth open. Ask yourself why some people in this wonderful country hardly get to eat at all!

He wasn't born a knight of the realm - he comes from ship builder stock - I suspect that chewing gum and spitting it out was considered the height of good manners on Clydeside in those days.

You are confusing nobility with ennoblement - not at all the same thing!

Yes it is bad manners and I doubt that in Clydside it was or is acceptable in most working class families of that era . I object to the patronising tone of moorwood-leyla-nd. in any event fergy was not born a knight.

Some people are not worthy of the Honours bestowed on them and no matter what, they would never acquire the manners to make them into a Lady or Gentleman. (Manners Maketh Man).

Your comments prove what my Granny used to say, "You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear." I suppose Her Majesty didn't knight him for his manners, though.
