Where can I stay in New York City for cheap?

Cheap is not a helpful description, what is cheap for NY might not be cheap for you. Are you looking for a hotel for a short stay or an apartment? Cheap hotels routinely run $200 a night. Even private rooms with shared baths in hostels are $100 a night.

Hey! I stayed in new york a few months back and found the cheapest place to stay was the YMCA on the west side of manhattan. I no it sounds gay but its ideal as you only need it to sleep in. Your not going to spend your day there. It was very cheap and had many facitities. It was close to the city and a stone throw away from Central Park. Only problem i felt with the place was that there was only 4 showers on each floor which meant i had to use the same showers as every other bloke..and if your wondering the girls have a seperate room to shower. any chance you can try answer my question about that trance song on my page?

You could consider Jersey City, namely the waterfront area and take the PATH into NY everyday. The rest of JC sucks though. I'd look on Priceline, you can sometimes find some great deals on there. Just make sure your hotel is near a subway or other train so that you can get into Manhattan easily.

Go for a hostel. I stayed in one in Chelsea once for $30 a night. Nothing fancy, and I slept in a room with 5 or 6 other people, but it served it's purpose.
