I wanted to paint my room midnight blue... my mom freaked... saying it would be too dark... (her roof her rules)

we went with light blue walls, the curtains, bedspread and area rug were midnight blue... I loved it! it looked great!

she was right I am glad we did it that way - but dont tell her :-)

If you are going to go dark, then I would suggest larger stripes, in a bright color. It will make your room look bigger. I would also add extra lighting to brighten it up. Try a hanging light of sorts, or tack christmas lights to your ceiling in a random pattern.
Hint...if you are going to do stripes, tape them off and paint the first layer the base color, then the color of your stripes, that way if it bleeds through the tape, it is already the color of your walls.

I think it will be quite dark because the 4 purple walls will reflect of each other and won't allow the light to bounce around. Why don't you try just one wall in purple and the rest in a neutral (white, cream or light taupe)? Or if you really like purple you could do it in a light purple/lavander and even have dark purple in your accessories (bedding, curtains, pictures, rugs).

I think it will be too dark. You are at the age where you really need softer colors to escape to. Just my opinion for what it is worth. What about a soft lavender or something similar. Dark color can be depressing.

Dark colors can be depressing.
You will need stronger lights in the room.

I love that idea, pick a color like a lighter violet to go with it or silver stripes. dark purple is a very classic color.

Go for it!

Paint is temporary and in the greater scheme of redecorating not that expensive.

Be bold!!
