Whatever route you take, remember that you *will* gain weight, and alot of it compared to "normal" soda if you replace 4l of regular soda with 4l of diet.
Don't know why, but the diet stuff primes the body to put on weight.
If you want a straight swap...tea - actual brewed tea, not the powered crap. Doesn't matter if it's hot or iced. Even though it has twice the caffeine as coffee, it does not have the impact that the caffeine in coffee does on the body.
Another reason to cut back/quit the soda habit, sugar water is a diuretic - you take in 4l of soda, you're voiding almost 4.25-4.5 litres or so through urination.
While it is possible to become addicted to sugar, an additiction to the caffeine (which *is* a mildly adictive borderline narcotic) is more likely.
As for other beverages - try other fruit juices. You might find one you like. Buy a single can of V8 and drink it - if you like it, drink it somewhat regularly, if it makes you sick/disgusted, avoid tomato juice...which is the prime constituent in V8. Since you don't like water - buy a couple packages of the Crystal Light singles and try them (1 pouch to 500ml of water). Can't vouch for their ingredient list, but it's likely somewhat better for you than soda.
Good luck!
(Incidentally, I know how you feel - my father used to drink almost 2l of Pepsi a day when I was young. He quit cold-turkey!)

This is what I did when I wanted to stop drinking soda years ago. I had to wean myself off soda like I was weaning myself off a bottle. Start by drinking less soda everyday and replacing it with kool-aid, v-8 splash, smoothies, etc. Then one day you will look back and realize that you have not drank soda in a long time. I can't remember when I last drank soda. When I first stop drinking soda I lost five pounds (didn't really need to but that goes to show how much it can impact your weight.)

That is really unhealthy.
Here's what I did (yes, at one oint, I was drinking 4 liters of soda as well)
I bought seltzer water. Regular water no longer cut it for me, but seltzer water added just enought fizz to help me. I also mixed it with cranberry juice, or mabye a few ounces of soda (like three.) Wein yourself off soda. Don't be tempted. If you have to, pitch all the soda in your house and don't buy any more. Don't even consider going to that aisle in the grocerie store.
Here's what really helped me stop drinking so much soda:
Soda, over time, and if drinken in excess amounts, can cause memory lose and brain damage.
Best of luck!

I quit soda about 11 years ago. You may not like plain water, but if you want the fizz with none of the sugar, try club soda and a twist of lemon or lime. Or iced tea with lemon (no sugar). Within a couple days I didn't miss the extra sugar and felt a lot better. Good luck!

try switching to a diet soda for a while or a caffeine free soda, your dependence is on the caffiene and sugar, if you can eliminate or lower the intake of one or both for a week or so, it's easier than you think. Maybe try some of the water additives such as koolaid.

Pretty simple, just don't buy it any more.
I'd suggest that you figure it out or in a few years your doctor will have some not so good news for you. Probably something along the lines of you becoming a diabetic and haveing to poke yourself with a needle and do blood tests every day. Then give yourself a shot of insuline to keep your blood sugar levels in check.

Use smaller glasses. Limit yourself to one liter a day, especially if it has sugar and/or caffeine in it. There are some nice add-ins for bottled water (or tap water, of course) available in some countries. Try to find out if they exist in yours. Some of them are diet, others are not. Drink water, with or without flavoring in it. A couple of nice mint leaves or a slice of citrus fruit floated in a glass of chilled mineral water can be very refreshing.

4 liters a day?? Buddy I'm sorry but that is really going overboard with caffeine!
Anyway try replacing it with maybe a soda type water. You know fruit flavored water.
