let's say someone knew they had schizophrenia wouldn't they be able to just ignore the delusions and hallucinations and cure themselves by just not paying attention to the thoughts?

No, that won't work. I worked in mental health for 20 years and lots of people try to do that and they end up in the hospital sooner or later.

It's not going to work any better than if a diabetic ignored his high blood sugar.

Hallucinations can be recognized as not real. Delusions, however, are by definition thinking that something is real when it actually is not. Believing the hallucination is a delusion. Being irrationally paranoid is a delusion. There also can be disorganized thinking, and cognitive deficits. Schiozophrenia is a progressive illness left untreated. With medication, many can live fairly normal lives. Without, it's all downhill.

if you began to here voices in your head and saw things in your environment. you probably wouldn't be able to ignore it. What a person with schizophrenia sees is just a real to that person as the nose on there face.

No, they wouldn't just be able to ignore it. They can know they have it, but aren't able to distinguish between reality and the hallucinations. Medication keeps the symptoms at bay.

it is not that easy for anyone with mental health problem to cure him/herself.schizophrenia is an ailment and requires pro ffessional treatment.A person con scious of his or her schizophrenic state can cure or help him/herself to improve by following the treament recomended or prescribed by the psychiatrist/counsellor.
