this documentary shows interviews with the admiral on the ship, other survivors on the ship. their families were threatened if they talked about the attack. also israelis who participated in the attack are interviewed. they even attacked the life rafts so there would be no survivors. even robert mcnamara is interviewed. anyone who believes the US wouldn't stage an attack on our military or stage a terrorist attack just doesn't know history. look up operation northwoods if you think US government wouldn't stage terror attacks to get us into war.

Did you know we shot our own planes out of the sky on D-Day?

Yes, Israeli aircraft attacked the USS Liberty.

While you were searching for the "truth", did you bother to know what was going on at the time of the attack? Israel was at war with the United Arab Republic (Egypt and Syria). UAR ships had been attacking Israeli ships, so the Israeli Air Force flew maritime interdiction missions.

American support was vital to Israel's survival in their wars with the Arab neighbors. So why would Israel attack an American Naval vessel, except in the case of mistaken identity?

I like searching the InterNet, too. But please do not use it has your only source for information. Anybody can put anything they want on the Net; it does not mean they know what they are talking about.

I remember this incident and remember the outrage. If I remember correctly, shortly after this incident, Israel took over Golan Heights. But they claimed the attack on the Liberty was a mistake, a case of mistaken identity, something most Americans didn't believe.

Our government downplayed the incident, smoothed it over, tried to soothe the public, but it did rankle. It was as though Israel accept all the help we had given them, then turned against us. I can't remember the year this happened. Back in the 60's I believe. I will go to the link you have provided to refresh my memory.

Let me remind you that, in the Christian religion, even though the Jewish people are the "Chosen," and, according to the Christian version of Revelation, will once again occupy Biblical lands, the fundamentalist Christians of today believe that, when the Second Coming takes place, the Jewish people will have to give up their faith and become Christian. A limited number of them, they believe, will be taken to Heaven. I know this may sound bizarre, but it is true.

The educated Jew knows that, although we have helped Israel with a financial windfall, it is because of Christianity and not through some humanitarian effort. After WWII, we only welcomed a few Jewish refugees. We did not go out of our way to help them until the British allowed them to settle in the Holy Land.

Why are you still banging on about this when everyone knows it was a tragic case of 'friendly fire' - just like the recent case when an American pilot shot down a British plane in Iraq and killed two young British soldiers...?

Would you like it if I kept posting remarks about that?

Israel would never deliberately attack America and anyone with a modicom of common sense knows it. I repeat: it was friendly fire. It happens. Tragic, yes. Deliberate, no.

not this boring shite again. Racist comments to attack the jewish people even with an incident from 40 years ago. Whats next the US killed more British soldiers in Gulf War 1 than the Iraqi's did, should we brits start pointing fingers at our friends the US??

Hmmm, Informationclearinghouse, ummm yeah pretty leftie organization trying to play up Israel= Bad guy angle on pretty much any Middle east story.

Yes, U.S.S. Liberty was attacked, and most likely Deliberately, that was 1967 anyone who was in charge then is long gone from both USA & Israeli Governments.

And for you conspiracy klowns note that the story is out , has been out, and even the ships Captain recieved the Medal Of Honor for his actions that day.

Captain William McGonagle

"For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty as Commanding Officer, USS Liberty (AGTR-5) in the Eastern Mediterranean on 8-9 June 1967. Sailing in international waters, the Liberty was attacked without warning by jet fighter aircraft and motor torpedo boats which inflicted many casualties among the crew and caused extreme damage to the ship. Although severely wounded during the first air attack, Captain (then Commander) McGonagle remained at his battle station on the badly damaged bridge and, with full knowledge of the seriousness of his wounds, subordinated his own welfare to the safety and survival of his command. Steadfastly refusing any treatment which would take him away from his post, he calmly continued to exercise firm command of his ship. Despite continuous exposure to fire, he maneuvered his ship, directed its defense, supervised the control of flooding and fire, and saw to the care of the casualties. Captain McGonagle's extraordinary valor under these conditions inspired the surviving members of the Liberty's crew, many of them seriously wounded, to heroic efforts to overcome the battle damage and keep the ship afloat. Subsequent to the attack, although in great pain and weak from the loss of blood, Captain McGonagle remained at his battle station and continued to conn his ship for more than seventeen hours. It was only after rendezvous with a United States destroyer that he relinquished personal control of the Liberty and permitted himself to be removed from the bridge. Even then, he refused much needed medical attention until convinced that the seriously wounded among his crew had been treated. Captain McGonagle's superb professionalism, courageous fighting spirit, and valiant leadership saved his ship and many lives. His actions sustain and enhance the finest traditions of the United States Naval Service"

President James E. Carter closed the Incident when He accepted reparations from the Israeli Government.

Note also in WW2 alone, 21,000 Americans died from "Friendly Fire"

the USA Sank the French Submarine "Surcouf"

Things like this happen in War, like it or not.

It is ridiculous to think that the government would kill thousands of people just to go into Iraq. I think they could come up with something a little less harsh to get the citizens behind them in order to go over there. Get some meds for your mental condition, it creeps me out to think that I live around people who think so whacked out. Makes me wonder whats next. Maybe george bush is in your backyard at night stealing your chicken's eggs in order to decimate the chicken population. Or maybe Elvis is trying to pollute your water supply?

Yes. It was the U.S.S. Liberty (AGTR-5). Happened in 1964. Glad to see you have awakened from your long slumber.

Your point is ?????
Good grief - it was 40 years ago. Did you know Germany killed thousands? & etc, etc.
We change & enemies become friends except when we are too bigoted to allow the change into friendship.
