Opinions??? Any way to handle Prision over population?

He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them. He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails, took away their weights, cut off all but "G" movies. He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects. Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a Federal Court Order that required cable TV for Jails. But only let in the Disney Channel and the Weather when asked why he replied,
so they know how hot it will be on the chain gangs.

He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value. The inmates complained he told them "This Isn't the Ritz Carlton, if you don't like it, don't come back."

He bought Newt Gingrich' lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the jails. When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

Temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix, 116 degrees, about 2,000 Inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts. Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat dripped down to their PINK SOCKS.
"Its 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, but they have to wear full battle gear, and they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!"

Showtunes -

I didn't leave anything out of the article I was sent, but thanks for what you added.

As for the Disney Channel, it is much better than anything else.

Works for me! What's the problem? With the exception of indignant Activists and Politicians the public at large is in favor of his approach by a HUGE margin.

I have to laugh at those that have suggested that those that agree with the Sheriff's policies that we should spend time there so we "Understand" how harsh it is.

BTW mark, you're right I have no pity for those that do things that leads to incarceration.

People have figured out for themselves, thank you! And as a result, conduct themselves so they DON'T end up in Jail!

Sorry, but 40 years of the "Rehabilitation" approach to incarceration and corrections has proved to be a failure!

The best thing for all those who agree with Sheriff Arpiao would be to spend a day or two or three inside. If you like, what goes around comes around, and it's only just time before the "system" will grind you up. No, it is not the Ritz Carlton, sending people there would cost LESS! Have you no pity? Let's see you spend $.40 per meal.

Personally I think that the prisoners are still given more than they deserve. I think he would agree with me (see the cable TV issue). If I have to pay for it, the prisoners shouldn't have the option.

Edit: The first answer said he should be sent to Gitmo. I agree, as long as he is put in charge.

If more prisons were run this way, we would definitely cut down the costs of our prison system. And I think they actually determined that the meal cost is down to 20 cents now. He may not be the smartest or most liked man, but he gets the job done, within the law.
Besides, he rarely gets repeat customers.

All jails should be run like this. If you can't take it don't do the crime. It's about time somebody found its a jail not a country club. If anything it should be harder put them on a chain gang.

Prison should not be easy, it should be tough, that is how you learn your lessons.

Personally I think this is a great way to get these people ready for the real world when they get out, they need to know what hard work is, what it means to work for all you have or get, rather than doing illegal things to obtain it.

Go Sheriff Joe!

Sheriff Joe is a hero to all those in the anti-illegal alien movement! He is tough on the illegal aliens and all criminals. More Sheriffs around the country should copy his example and get tough on criminals. The criminals should be working to pay off their debts to their victims, and to pay for the cost of their incarceration. We could and should use prison labor instead of illegal alien labor in agriculture and other industries.

State and local law enforcement do have the constitutional authority to regulate illegal immigration, which is one of the things that Sheriff Joe is accomplishing. Go Sheriff Joe!

Yep...we're all thrilled he lets the child molesters in his jail watch the disney channel....

He also tried to setup illegal roadblocks to search every single car passing through an area-this failed when they explained to him repeatidly that it is unconstitutional.

Yes he's done some good, but he needs to be knocked down a bit. He is a power hungry biggot who has no respect for people's rights.

One other thing you left out though:
He recalled the national guard to protect against illegal immigrants in defiance of Bush who said it is national gov't who gets to deploy the guard (despite them being considered a state run militia).
__

Edit: Didnt say you left something out from the article. Im saying you should go and read more than just one blatantly one-sided article. The man is a monster, but a monster can do great things-just look at what Hitler did for the world economy and for mass transportation.

I'm not sure what your question is, if there is one. But Sheriff Arpiao is not an educated man I just think he should at least have a GED. The citizens of Maricopa County should at least vote to make this mandatory. Sheriff Arpiao on the other hand is probably doing the best he can with regards to arresting illegal immigrants and jailing them. I do not believe that this is the answer though. It is all just a classic case of racism, socio-economics, class and poverty. I believe that if Sheriff Arpiao keeps this up then to pay for jail for immigrants. After a Congressman, Legislator, or Governor leave office their health and retirement benefits should pay for Sheriff Arpiao's jails, and these politicians would have to pay for healthcare like the rest of us.

he is a hero and more people need to get balls like him. Criminals have given up their right to live in society. Why should they live any better than the porest living law abider?
