I'm going to Manistee and will be fishing near the Tippy Dam area this coming mid October. Whats going to be running and what choices of bait, I'm not a fly fisherman so keep that in mind. I've never fished up north so I'm just looking for some advise.
Thank you

By mid October, you'll probably still be seeing some salmon below the Tippy. A lot of them will be turning brown by then, though. If we get cool temps and rain, Steelhead will be heading up the river too. Those are a lot of fun. They'll be a TON of people on the river there trying to catch them. I usually go with spawn bags under a bobber.

Forget the Salmon. All the city people will be looking for fish that can't be caught by now, they're through biting and you'd snag them, this is illegal.
Get yourself some big crawlers at Wal-Mart, big juicy ones and, some red yarn.

Put the crawlers on a number ten mustad hook and tie a bit of yarn on the shank then, trim it to an very small piece that looks like it's part of the worms head. get what I mean?

Toss it out up stream, you can't fish the apron, they'll be watching you, and fine you if your caught, Fish just below the apron and down stream. Let the line way out and drift with the current.

seems such as you have been naughty! after all, the State of Wisconsin isn't at conflict with the different state. properly valuable, all of us hate human beings from Illinois. yet we do not have an opinion of persons from Minnesota or Michigan, except that's to sense quite sorry for them for having even worse climate than we do. that's authentic that that's not a state wherein to velocity. despite the fact that that's not proper what your registration code says. The law enforcement officers gets you no count the place you're from.

Tippy dam at that time will be loaded with fishermen! far more than the Salmon that will be running! I would go with an orange and silver Cleo in the day and a Golw Cleo at night.GOOD LUCK and KEEP FISHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
