When people put VISTA down you think have they used it yet??, people seem to forget that XP had loads of problems at the start until the service packs came out, the only bug with VISTA is the items on your old PC need replacing before you can use it, if items work OK with XP then they should be fine with Vista Basic. certain people will sl-g VISTA off but talk to them in 1-2 years and they will be saying how great it is.
To answer your question it is a big NO, but you should not advertise it to the web that you download illegal music.

LOL It does NOT scan for illegal music, but windows media player DOES check that you have "rights" to use music/movies.
So your childish friend hates a program because he 1. doesn't even know the right program. 2. Because it doesn't support him doing anything illegal. Its childish people like him that cause the RIAA to do the things it does. If it wern't for people like him, there would be no need for DRM in the first place. 3. Windows media player isnt the only program that does it. MANY stand alone plyers do it too. 4 isn't smart enough not to do illgal things in the first place. He is probably the type that complains if he gets caught by the cops shoplifting that it wasn't his fault. My advice to you, get better friends
Microsoft will check if THEIR programs are legit, but they won't check if anyone elses are. And I think it is perfectly fair for them to ensure the people using their progams are doing so legally.

I don't believe this to be the case and have never heard about it. I've been using Vista day in, day out since February 2007 and have never had any problems. I would be very suspicious of the legal status of any software which actually deleted content from your system. However, if anyone knows different, I'm prepared to be corrected...

Don't get busted!
People DO get caught stealing "stuff" using P2P filesharing programs such as Limewire, Kazza etc, and face large fines.
People as young as 12 years old.
"The music industry has turned its big legal guns on Internet music-swappers — including a 12-year-old New York City girl who thought downloading songs was fun."
"Brianna LaHara said she was frightened to learn she was among the hundreds of people sued yesterday by giant music companies in federal courts around the country."
"I got really scared. My stomach is all turning," Brianna said last night at the city Housing Authority apartment where she lives with her mom and her 9-year-old brother."

It does not. There is an article going around describing how MS takes masses of information from your machine, but in fact they take no personal information, it only happens when the machine connects to MS (updates etc) and is only enough info for them to track overall useage and problems for all users. They are not interested in your music.

Completely untrue it does not report you for having downloaded music or anything else for that matter so don't worry about it!
And you can tell your friend that he should give it a try again cos it really is much better than XP in every way!

The second guy is correct. Microsoft has absolutely no control over what you download, or have on your computer.
