I was wondering why god talked to people when the bible was being written but god does not talk to no one anymore. Does this mean god is done with us now? What if god wants to tell the world something? Do we make a new chapter in the bible?

He does and we do. If you believe in all that god stuff, then the muslims, mormons, and even scientologists claim that god has talked to people who wrote new scriptures just as the christians wrote new scriptures after the jews stopped writing theirs. There have been many people throughout history who have heard a god and some of them have written it down.

Whether these people are recording myth or mistaken or crazy or scam artists is for you to decide. Most of the traditional religions seem to fall into the recording myth or mistaken categories.

God did not regularly talk to people when the Bible was being written. As an experiment, look at the times that God actually speaks to people in the Old Testament, and look how far apart the occurences actually are (often centuries, and sometimes more than 1000 years). Keep in mind that many incidents of God "speaking" were nothing more than the observation of natural phenomona, the results of divination with the urim and thummim, or an analysis of historical events.

If God spoke to people the way he did in the Old Testament, then we might expect him to have uttered one sentence to a single human being around 1000 AD.

God communicates with believers today through his Holy Spirit, which indwells the believer. He doesn't say anything that isn't consistent with what he's already said.

Remember that the Bible covers a period of at least 4000 years. When you look at how many times God directly spoke to people in the Bible you find big gaps where he wasn't saying anything huge and new. We're in one of those gaps now where he doesn't have anything new to say. We know what's next on the agenda and we're waiting for it.

God may choose to give us more revelation in the future. He hasn't ruled it out. But don't expect to see a Bible 2.0. When he does speak it will likely be very controversial and won't just be glued into the back of every Bible the next day.

God talked to prophets before the Bible was written, in order to write the bible, ( Holy Scriptures ) once the Bible was complete, Old and New Testaments, there was no need to talk to prophets, there are no prophets today, because we have the Bible, and it is the written word of God. Every dotted " i " and every crossed " t " is God breathed in the original author. And when diligently studied with prayer for understanding and guidance from the holy Spirit, you will have no disbelief.

God does still speak VOLUMES, actually if WE take the time to be quiet enough to listen. He may not speak audibly as He did in the OT days- however now that we have Jesus and the Holy Spirit, He speaks to our spirits. He will not speak if you have disbelief, or if you refuse to obey when He speaks. It can be very easy, to "sense" God telling us something, and then we can just say, oh He does not speak anymore, so we do not have to do what He says. I am not saying this is what you do, it is just examples that God has used in my life to get my attention long enough so He can speak. God is the same , yesterday , today and forever, so why wouldn't He speak? People just cannot hear because we are too busy to be silent long enough, or if we chose to hear, we would have to obey. Take the time to listen, because my friend, HE IS NOT DONE WITH US NOW- Christ came to earth to die for our sins so that we could have a personal relationship with God, and that means communication. If you have Jesus, you have the voice of God.

ODDS10-1- You are right to say we are not worthy- however Christ died so that we would be worthy- that is where our worth is- God wants to speak to us, to fulfill the relationship that we broke because of sin. If people think I am crazy for communing with God, so be it- He desires that closeness

When I was doing Christian counseling I told a woman this when she asked me why God didn't answer her. " He is answering you. You just need to be quiet long enough to hear his voice. The Bible describes it as a small still voice. It is more of a knowing. A feeling. A calming. A peacefulness, A comforting. An understanding. god answers in these ways not in the same kind of voice you would hear from a human person."

That's funny you ask this question.

Imagine if Yahoo! Answers was available during the Old Testament. You would be saying, Why doesn't God speak to people any more?

Then the New Testament comes along 1900 years later.

God speaks to everyone. We just can't hear, because we are not tuned in all the time. It says "My sheep know my voice". Christians can hear the voice of God. Before Jesus came the Holy Spirit just spoke through the prophets because He could only be on one person at a time. After Jesus came, believers would be filled with the Holy Spirit and speak the words of God. God speaks to you because He loves you. You hear him in your dreams, He is always calling out to you, drawing you into Himself. He uses His people now to speak to the world. This is why there are pastors, evangelists, missionaries taking the word of God to people everywhere.

quite, you could desire to alter your wording in simple terms quite: Hebrew Bible Roman Catholic Bible Protestant Bible The Jewish pupils finished the version of the Hebrew Bible in with regard to the 0.33 century. That text fabric is risk-free in the two the RC and Prot. Bible. The order of the books is distinctive, simply by fact of underlying assumptions. The Christian Bible (the recent testomony) wasn't quite nailed down till almost the 10th century or so. After that, it became locked in. This became carried out in a team of Church Councils. this text is the comparable in the two the RC and Prot. Bible, and the previous testomony is incredibly lots the comparable in the two of those Bibles, different than that the order could be slightly distinctive. the sole distinction between the RC and Prot. Bibles is the presence of the Apocrypha -- various books that have been unknown in Hebrew, yet have been risk-free immediately in Greek language translations of the previous testomony that have been in common use around the time of the early Church. That Greek translation of the previous testomony (called the Septuagint) became so common (maximum Jews did not at that element bear in thoughts the thank you to communicate or examine Hebrew anymore) that whenever you detect the previous testomony quoted interior the recent testomony, it quite is often the Septuagint text fabric they are quoting.

There are two *basic* beliefs on this matter, along sectarian lines.

1) God no longer speaks directly to anyone

2) God still speaks to us

Section 2 can be further divided along sectarian lines

A) God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit, but scripture is "closed" (no new books will be added to the bible). Sects that teach this generally believe that scripture is sufficient and that no more is necessary; therefore, God will not inspire anyone to add to it.

B) God speaks to us and scripture is "open" (there are still people inspired by God to write new books for the bible). Sects that teach this are generally considered cults or to have arisen from cults. The Mormons are one example of this. Such sects usually believe that prophets (equal to the OT biblical prophets) are active in their sect.

C) Like B, but instead of adding to the bible new revelation is added to *doctrine*. Such revelation is tested against the bible (i.e. cannot contradict inspired scripture). Many sects fall into this category, most especially the "traditional" sects (Roman Catholics, most Orthodox sects, the Church of England).

Note that some sects do not fall into any of these categories - sects that, like C, develop new doctrine, but do not require it to agree with explicit instructions in scripture. Sects that allow female preachers, or that allow (unrepentant) homosexuals to be members, are examples of these. I like to refer to these as "cafeteria Christians", because they choose to follow only those scriptures that they want to follow.

How God tells us things varies, depending on your beliefs. Certain Roman Catholics have had "visitations" over the last few centuries. Supposedly, saints have visited people (usually in waking visions) and delivered messages from God. The RCC has judged that belief in these events is optional - they are, in any case, not known to create new doctrine. This http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Lady_of_Fatima is the most famous recent example - and almost incredible to read about, especially the accounts given by skeptics. Here is more info on the "apparitions" of Mary http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marian_apparitions .
