This question is for those that try to please God.

Do you feel that a person's way of dressing can give off wrong signals to others?
Do you think that a true Christian could convey their sentiments by always being dressed in a conservative manner - or - do you think that a person's way of dress has nothing to do with pleasing God?

Don't worry about answering each question individually - I'll understand where you're coming from

Yes, it most certainly is.
According to Scripture we r to walk modestly w/ our God--
Mic 6:8
You can wash & dress up a pig,
even give it a gold nosering, it's still a pig.
From hair & make-up; all the way to ur fingertips.
Present urself wholly, to ur God--
Rom 6:13
U should always do ur best to represent ur God.--
2Tim 2:15
And don't mistake this issue, as tho'
the Almighty God, doesn't care about ur manner of dress--
Eph 5:27

Ur manner of dress, does matter to each & every individual
whether u know the person or not.
Have respect for urself and other ppl around u.
Some ppl are not living a Godly life,
and so it doesn't matter to that one;
about leering @ a female.
So as to have desire for her.
And all have fallen short of His glory.
We do sin.
And to not lead some1 else to sin...dress modestly.

During my 2 dghter's teen yrs., I always used as a guide
"the arms @ ur side; if its past ur fingertips, ur o.k.,
if its @ or shorter then ur fingers...its to short."
U can believe I saw the 'schrunching' of the back.
But, it was consistent & always worked.

p.s. my hsbnd says I dress like an old lady.
Cuz I don't dress like a floozie.

I think C.S. Lewis, writing in "Mere Christianity", said it best:

"The Christian rule of chastity must not be confused with the social rule of 'modesty' (in one sense of that word); i.e. propriety, or decency. The social rule of propriety lays down how much of the human body should be displayed and what subjects can be referred to, and in what words, according to the customs of a given social circle. Thus, while the rule of chastity is the same for all Christians at all times, the rule of propriety changes. A girl in the Pacific islands wearing hardly any clothes and a Victorian lady completely covered in clothes might both be equally 'modest', proper, or decent, according to the standards of their own societies: and both, for all we could tell by their dress, might be equally chaste (or equally unchaste)....When people break the rule of propriety current in their own time and place, if they do so in order to excite lust in themselves or others, then they are offending against chastity. But if they break it through ignorance or carelessness they are guilty only of bad manners. When, as often happens, they break it defiantly in order to shock or embarrass others, they are not necessarily being unchaste, but they are being uncharitable: for it is uncharitable to take pleasure in making other people uncomfortable."

What parent of a young girl has not stopped her from going out in the door dressed in some fashion they felt sent the wrong message?

I do feel like Christians and anyone of modesty should give thought to their manner of dress. Where is arguement lies, is in what each of us deem conservative and appropiate. I do think my way of dressing is conservative but a woman of another faith may not......there is certainly a lot of people walking around in public who are barely covered. It is difficult for me to take them seriously when they present themself in this manner. While God does see all, I don't think He wants us to show all to others. I support showing your self respect by covering the intimate parts of your body.

as a Christian we are to dress in a modest manner... modest behavior....

A friend of mine years ago dressed like a $4 hooker and tried to convince people she was a Christian..
(she was Christian)...tried to tell her over and over again...her fashion appearance looked bad and presented a bad image of God to others when you dress in such a fashion....

going to the mall or any where today I see more skin and less clothes than I am old enough to witness!! don't these people own a mirror??

NO. it is not the current fashion...tacky and rude is not a fashion statement...unless you are in the DR office I don't want or need to see that much of any thing....

Whether you like it or not, humans categorize things. It is our way of handling input. Humans put people in categories based on appearance. Dress like a street-walker hooker and be put in that category and treated as such until proven different.

Individuality is fine, encouraging in fact. Just don't assume anyone else can not have their own individuality by placing their opinion of you in whichever category THEY wish.

As for pleasing God, He wishes His people to be well thought of by other humans as representatives of Him. Though He judges the heart, humans do so by first--outward appearance.

That depends where you at.
Of course you are not going to wear a Mini-Skirt to Church or a classy Restaurant or Job-Interview. And you are not going to wear a Suit to the Beach.
I feel if you are comfortable 8 out of 10 you are alright.

My religion teaches me to dress modestly, to keep myself covered and also to cover my hair. The world is obsessed with s_x and women are judged by their looks rather than for the person that they are. Women are not some kind of pleasure object for males to play around with. Every woman should have self respect and keep her private parts to herself, not all over magazine covers and all over tv. It's no wonder that there is an increased number of attacks and rapes on women when they are flaunting themselves to everyone. They are asking for it.
