If you don't believe in God, why bother criticizing?? You are practically making God revolve around you when you try so eagerly to make fun of questions about Christianity saying its a "fairy tale" or fallible.

And I know this sounds so "christian cliche" but I'm beginning to think you guys somehow believe God is existant 'cuz there are so many things that are for sure NOT REAL, ex. Santa Claus, and I never heard people trying to BAN him in any sort of way, but when it comes to God and Jesus, you are offended???? And if it's because it is written that non believers will perish in hell, SO WHAT? right? YOU DONT BELIEVE IN HELL, so please explain why so a many of you are so ambitious to mock and expel Christianity?

and no i don't consider opposing remarks as ridicule, I mean when they literally make fun of it, saying God is homosexual, we are a bunch of simple minded cave ppl or something or comparing our beliefs to fairy tales.

cosmic eye candy, that is MY belief so I will not be ashamed of it just because it may seem hateful. It warns them, and by their own free will they choose to go the other way, so how dare you place such a judgement on me simply believing in the word of God, cuz THAT is MY will and you have no right in telling me that I'm wrong for having strong beliefs in it.

The ones that ridicule Christianity are generally insecure individuals who feel the need to demean others, and that if they are able to crush another's system of beliefs they are somehow self-validated and powerful.

Most Atheists I've known do not mock Christianity though--they attempt to disprove it using science and reason, while still remaining respectful of others' rights to believe. I see absolutely nothing wrong with a good hearty debate, provided it doesn't venture below the belt.

I think it's because like atheists, Christians do not stay quiet on their stance. They are constantly attempting to preach to others, and many times they place themselves on a pedestal above everyone else.

To tell someone "You need to accept Jesus or you're going to go to Hell" isn't just stating what you believe, it's stating that the other person is wrong and is living a foolish life.
"I don't believe in God or Hell, I think it's just a bunch of fluff" is no different than the above statement. It an atheist stating that the other person is wrong, and is living a foolish life.

Why should Christians be able to 'preach' their message, but atheists shouldn't?

That said, I've noticed a lot of atheists being overly rude here. I don't quite understand their fascination with the religious question category since they don't believe in it, but that's their prerogative. I've seen numerous Christians add their 2 cents to where it wouldn't be welcomed as well, so it's a 2-way street. "Do unto others" I guess.

Some atheists only like to point out how ridiculous religion is. There are more and more "theists" on the planet that want to impose their ancient mythology upon everyone without having any rational reason that the doctrine makes any sense at all. There are many different of these myth based doctrines, or interpretations of them, all in supposedly "holy" books, that even instruct to kill everybody that thinks or is different in their opinion, or otherwise enslave them.
Read your bible well, and you'll be scared to think that there are people with such a book, but telling/interpreted the same about you. I'm a victim in all of these books, because I don't believe in either of them. That's why I sometimes tell really disturbed religious people how phony these books are.

We criticize because you criticize, you dont see Atheists trying to convert people, we let people believe what they want for whatever reasons they want. Then we get people like you that try and tell us why we're wrong or better yet "you guys somehow believe god is existant", NO WE DONT. God is a man made story, get that through your f'n head, you Christians are so stupid it amazes me. I guess it doesnt really bother you though, because the society you follow and conform too is also stupid. Can't blame you for not being able to think on your own, its a shame people let their lives be run by a fictional tale and are so blinded by the facts.

For starters, I don't have a problem with most Christians. Most of my family and many of my friends are Christian, and I get along fine with them. The brunt of my ire is towards self-righteous pseudo-Christians who not only are most ignorant of their own religion, but also tend to be very, very jingoistic and arrogant towards non-Christians.

As for Christianity the belief system, I don't believe in it. I do think that Jesus (or whoever wrote the Gospels) did have a rather enlightened moral code for the time, but otherwise the supernatural stuff is just the invention of human imaginations. The main reason we atheists openly refute the various doctrines of Christianity in public is because so many people demand us to justify our non-belief. If you believers didn't ask us why we don't believe in your god and if American society didn't force corporate Christianity down our throats constantly, most reasonable atheists would probably not care at all about debating religion...

Atheists by default are rebels. Besides you have to admit, there are enough religious people in here that ask the sort of questions - or give the sort of answers - that practically give atheists the best opportunity to make fun.

"You are practically making God revolve around" - this is not the kind of statement that can make an atheist agree with you or understand your point.

Being an atheist is a new fad. They truly do believe they are important because they have found some wondrous new answer that the rest us are blind to. By the way most atheists are college kids whose beliefs will change just like their politics as they get older. They complain that we try to push our beliefs on them like don't murder, rape or steal. Because when there is nothing to believe in you become somebody with no moral compass that looks for self gratification no matter what the cost even if it hurts others. And yes it is okay to ridicule atheists they have the worst sense of humor because they are not happy people in general. Let a joke fly and watch them get their panties in a bunch. For people that don't believe in anything they sure can't take dissent towards their non-beliefs at all. The best thing of all is that many of us that do believe..... pray for you.

I think your question hinges on the connotations of the word "ridicule". I disagree with anyone who thinks that organized religion adds value. I criticize most of their arguments. I ridicule some of the most egregiously irrational arguments.

Are you one of the people who thinks that any criticism of belief in god or gods is ridicule or blasphemy? If so, then I think you are the one with the problem, not me.

As to the reasons why I spend time criticizing religion, see brother_manuel's answer. If Christians in the U.S. would support the separation of Church and State, would stop trying to corrupt the teaching of science in public schools, and would stop supporting corrupt politicians, then I would be less motivated to spend time criticizing organized Christianity.

you cant hate what does not exist...

and i think Christan's are delusional and in denial...

you believe in a god that contradicts himself and has a book that contradicts its self. all claiming peace and love while demanding blood and vengeance...
you believe in a being that supposedly once performed miracles but has not bother to do so in centuries...
you believe in the most ridiculous fables, such as Johna being swallowed by a whale, or some one walking on water, and then defend them as FACT while vehemently denying that a single celled organism has the capability to evolve let alone a human...
you cherry pick anything positive and choose to ignore anything negative. anything to make yourselves look better than everyone else...
You hold a book that has been rewritten dozens of times, is full of contradictions and outright right lies as the literal word of god. gleefully accepting that a second century goat herder knew more about the working of nature than modern science...
in short, you are desperately clinging to the 'what if' and 'is just easier to ignore' than to objectively look at your religion. as I said, you are all in denial and cling to a fairy tale only to make yourselves feel better about your life...

As a matter of fact I don't, I answer questions and try to stay polite.
Of course sometimes sarcasm escapes, usually when the question is something like : "Atheist, why are you so stupid and idiots to believe in science" or with that awful gloating of "Do you know you are going to hell and the thought is so much pleasing to me because you will get your own for not following my rules and I am so much better than you"

Well said. The same could be asked of Chrstians and why they mock Atheism.

The answer: They both want to be right but neither of them can.

Please leave other religions and athiests alone. It's incredibley condescending, annoying, offensive, and rude to push your beliefs down our throats. I have great respect for theists and athiests alike. Believe what you want, but leave the rest of us alone.

You are absolutely right! No one has ANY right to tell people what they can and cannot belive or what they should or that their beliefs are wrong. You shouldn't be ashamed of what you believe and f-those who say you should. How dare they!

And let me just say, as an Agnostic, any so called "Athiest" who says "God is a homosexual" or anything like that...is NOT an Athiest. How do I know this...because they are saying that something they don't believe in is gay...how can something be gay if it is not real, athiests...how?

Cheers!
