HDMI cable for Sony Bravia v2500 LCD?

Question

I want to buy an HDMI cable for my Sony Bravia v2500 LCD tv. I understand it is cheapest and easiest to buy the cable from monoprice.com. My question now is, should I buy the HDMI/DVI cable or just the HDMI cable? What is the difference anyway?

Those are the two links to the cables. Which one do I need for a hook up to a cox HD cable box?

p.s. If someone could explain to me what male-male connections or female-male connections mean, I would appreciate it.

the birds & bees of cables.

male & female refer to the connectors
a male connector has pins
a female connector has sockets.
the pins go into the sockets
then the signal is reproduced.

typically female connectors are mounted on a chassis, male connectors on the cable ends.

a male-female cable is needed to extend a male-male cable.

I bought a pack of 3 for cheap from ECost - had a rebate at the time. They work just fine.

If u are going from HDMI to HDMI all u need is an HDMI cable.
an HDMI/DVI cable would have two different connectors on it.
DVI is typically from the digital video output of a computer.

I bought an 8ft. Monster HDMI to DVI cable from Ebay for $56 new !. My cable box has HDMI & the TV has DVI , I have a Sony Bravia similar to yours. The only other cable I needed was an audio cable from audio out on cable box to audio-in on Surround Sound System. If you don't have that, but you do have a DVD, a component from ccable box to TV will work.

Cualquier tipo de cable hdmi que necesito los compro siempre de sitios web, mi último cable comprado ha sido para conectar mi PlayStation al televisor, el cable es perfecto porque es suficientemente largo, es especial para HD y el PlayStation va perfectamente, muy contenta con la compra.
