There was a time I yearned to take all the world's suffering, grief, sadness and pain into my own heart so no one else would need to experience those and the entire world could be filled with joy. But slowly I realized this would do no one any benefit. Those perceptions of suffering, grief, sadness and pain are transparencies to see beyond. And no one will attempt to expand vision without a necessity to do so.
Fear is the same. It wouldn't be right for any of us to deny another the growth and maturity gained from the realization of seeing beyond a fear. Our perceptions are frequently illusions. Seeing past them leads to an ever expanding truth.
Let it be, let it be, Shine on until tomorrow, let it be.

It wouldn't work. Some balances are dynamic. If I snapped my fingers and banished all fear, everyone would become afraid of ME, and from that--each other.
Likewise if all Evil were banished from the world tomorrow, there would be those who thought themselves more worthy than others and do what they felt necessary to gain what they perceived as their greater entitlement. And if every Defender of Good were to fall, a great and Evil man would find himself forced to come to the defense of the Innocent.
And Shihan, not all fear stems from ignorance. The times in my life when I have been most afraid, I knew exactly what was going on.

Fear is an illusory energy founded in lack of knowledge. Once knowledge is acquired, the energy of fear dissipates. However, most fears are irrational. I know that I can walk a 2x4 when it is laying right on the ground, and I will not falter, I will not fall. But put that 2x4 on the edge of a roof on a building 24 stories up and I would be quaking in my boots just THINKING about walking that thing. Irrational, because I know I can walk that 2x4 without falling, but I still fear I will fall.
No amount of snapping of one's fingers will ever end fear. I do not, however, agree that it will grow exponentially with its polarity. Fear has no power in the face of love. We will hold onto our irrational fears because we are human; but our love can continue to grow without the fear growing also.
Same with good and evil. Evil will never be abolished, because without it we cannot define good. But evil can be reduced, while good can be enhanced. If it is too dark, just turn on more lights. The darkness will still exist; we can still define light -- but the darkness does not have to have as much power as the light; it does not have to consume as much space as the other.
I agree we should let it be. It is what it is, because it is what we perceive it to be.

"There is nothing absolute about either good or evil."
Sure there is... God is absolutely good.
"You decide what is good based on what you fear and what is evil based on what you desire."
No, I may believe something is good or evil based on fear or desire, but that doesn't make it good or evil. If I mistook a poisonous mushroom for one that wasn't, my belief that it was nonpoisonous wouldn't save me from dying if I ate it. Same principle. Our thoughts don't change or determine reality.
"Increase good and you increase evil. Increase evil, and you increase good."
You're going to have explain how rape or murder could increase good or benevolence or selflessness could increase evil then. I'm just not seeing it.
"To put an end to fear....is to destroy love."
On the contrary, perfect love casts out fear, rather than being destroyed by the latter's absence. Furthermore, love more often inspires acts of bravery rather than cowardice.
"There was never a problem to begin with."
If one thinks that good needs evil to exist, there certainly is.

Some people live closely guarded lives, fearful of encountering someone or something that might shatter their insecure spiritual foundation. This attitude, however, is not the fault of religion but of their own limited understanding. True Dharma leads in exactly the opposite direction. It enables one to integrate all the many diverse experiences of life into a meaningful and coherent whole, thereby banishing fear and insecurity completely.

I stopped snapping my fingers, some years ago!
I got calluses from doing that.
Fear is an intangible item, that drives man to understand that which is unknown.
Facing fear allows man to come to a greater understanding of why there is nothing to fear.
Doubts are removed and the Soul is given wings for flight.

We strive for the enlightenment of all. How far we manage to go isn't known but I suspect dualism can be dismantled. The Christ event of 2000 years ago did something to change the nature of things, how do we know that sacrifice didn't have a dualistic pairing that's been discarded. The path to unity is mapped by the unified self, it is beyond my mortal mind.

No I wouldn't end fear in such an arbitrary way.
Opposition is necessary for growth... the more weights you lift, the bigger muscles you get. We all need problems that we can overcome.
Here are some Christian scriptures regarding the need to "overcome":
http://scriptures.lds.org/en/search?search=overcometh&do=Search
A prophet whose words were recorded in the Book of Mormon agrees with your philosophy - there is a need for opposition in all things:
http://scriptures.lds.org/en/2_ne/2/11,15#11
If I had the power to, I would not "snap my fingers" and take away the opportunity for my brothers and sisters to have personal growth.
EDIT: digilook... your quote expresses a very deep truth. Thanks! :-)

No I wouldn't.
And love is a manifest of overcoming division, it isn't a part of duality in that manner. There is only fear because there is ignorance. Knowledge and understanding do away with fear, this applies to understanding of others and knowledge of ones self.
