I know this one guy, extremely good looking, very intelligent, virtuous and kind but he'd been rejected by 300 girls because he stuttered whenever he sees a pretty girl
And now this same guy is saying that he will settle for whatever he can get... but his friend says he's too good for me...
so how can I assess how high a man's standards are?

From my experience, desparate guys are very needy and overwhelming. He may have a chacteristic that you would normally like in a man, but a desparate one seems to constantly feel the need to impress.
He's not too good for you, he just can't handle a confident woman. Instead of admitting his areas that need to be worked on, he needs to blame the women he interacts with. When he says he's settling with himself, not you.

I'm not really sure how to answer your question, but I find that in matters of romance, the less you analyze a situation, the better.
You like him, he sounds like a great guy. You actually already have a friendship or acquaintanceship with him. Ignore what other people say about him or you. Just go for it. Get closer to him, ask him out, whatever feels right. See what happens. Don't worry about "his standards"...it's not like he royalty or anything, he's just a guy.

Well obviously his standards have been lowered quite a bit from rejection..so he probably has no standards. Like most guys he has probably given up and settles for the ones that will cling to him (unlike many others.)
So unless you want to be a guy that just looks at you as a girl to date rather than a person that he would like to get to know..then drop him now.

Do you think he is "settling" for you? Why is your perception of yourself so bad that you would lead yourself to believe that?
There is no need to assess his "standards". All you need to do is assess whether he REALLY likes you and whether you REALLY like him!
How do you do that? Believe in yourself and judge how he views/treats you!
If he treats you like you are the most special person to him, then he is a "keeper".
However, if he treats you like he is just with you waiting for something better to come along, then dump him now!

If someone is telling you that he is to good for you then they obviously probably don't know you all that well. Don't settle for him hun unless you really love him .And if that guy starts thinking that he's the reason you didn't settle for him then just tell him it's because you don't feel for him in that way.

really good question.. had me thing for a bit.. to assess how high his standards are, put him to the test... ask him questions about certain personalities and see how he reacts to the bad ones and the good ones.. If he settles for any kind then u know his standards are low...

A desparte guy will try too hard to get you into bed. One who is'nt will be willing to wait talk with you about thing's you want to talk about. I know i used to be a desparte guy. Then one day i woke up and saw what was right in front of me all the time.

Do you like him? Do you think he and you have a future together? Is he feel comfortable with you? Are you feeling comfortable with him? It is your heart that you have to listen to, not people from here or his friends.
