I have lost my UK passport and have been told that I cannot get an appointment at the London passport office until next monday (eight days time) and I am travelling in six days time to France via Eurostar! Unfortunately I do not have a drivers licence and was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue recently and have managed to get a new passport quickly. I know the rules have changed recently and I know I was stupid to lose it but any possible answers to my problem would be soooo brilliant.

Just an update - I contacted the passport office earlier today and they were the ones who told me about the 7 day "fasttrack" service and they weren't very helpful

I do not wish to be the bearer of bad news but my passport was stolen recently.
You have to report the passport missing to your local Police station and obtain a crime number.
Then complete the lost or stolen form.
Fastrack is not available on lost or stolen passports and going to the office will not make much difference.
Fill in the documents, make an appointment at any office and then you will just have to wait for the new one to be delivered by post. It is not possible to collect the replacement as they will be making various enquiries regarding the old one and this takes time.
Like I said sorry about this.

I do know that the french dont always ask you for your passport on the way out but, I also know that the brits usually ask you for your passport on the way in. Maybe you could get an appointment with another office and then get someone else to drive or get the train to one of those branches? I know national express do cheap bus travel and so does megabus.com so surely one of the local offices must have one somewhere. If you have the details of your passport, then it is just possible that you might be able to fast track a new one and receive it in 48 hours I think it is but that is also pretty expensive. Weigh up your options and see which one works best for you. The only other thing you could do is change your holiday dates, depending on the terms that your brought your tickets under and the insurance than you have, you might actually be covered for a few days before you go away, especially if you get a crime reference number from the police. My friend did this and they were able to rush his passport through even though they had no appointments for 2 weeks and, he was able to collect it.
Do read all the small print on your insuance and your tickets before you worry yourself too much :)

I think by now your only option is to go to the office to get one in person. I know usually if you just get there early they will fit you in anyway. That is supposed to be the idea with them that you can get them in a hurry in case you lose/ need to travel in such circumstances as yours. It is only a copy so there is not the issue of it being the first one so should be reasonably easy.
The rule change is that they have brought in new rules that randomly selected adults applying for their first UK passports need to be interviewed to stop terrorists/ asylem seekers etc getting passports so this may be why the offices are busier.
The quickest postal application still takes 7days i think so dont think this would be any use to you either.
Hope you sort it out in time.

Inform your passport office that you have lost it. Worst case scenario is that you may have to pay for a fast track service to pay for a new one.
