Weird symbols also replaced where "explore" should be.

Do not format and do not delete *.exe files. You may have a virus but until the computer is checked by a pro, you won't know and if you start formatting and deleting files you can make it worse.
What kind of symbols do you get?

This may be due to a virus or any other malicious program in the C Drive.

1. Scan the C drive using any Antivirus software's.
2. Search for any *.exe file in C: and delete if there is any file which is suspicious.

Opps, sounds like a virus. After getting it taken care of, I recommend a firewall, antivirus program.

It means Format you Hard Drive, You Have A Virus.
Dont wait other answer....cause it happen to me once.

Try restore point , if not use a repair program disk or last of all reinstall os after you reformat-clean and defrag harddrive
