Nothing. It's just become a phrase to show surprise. I don't even believe in god and I use that phrase.

Its an Expression Used all over the World in Different languages to express some sudden burst of emotions.

An expression or emotion of surprise, wonderment, shock, frightened or extreme happiness. I could go on but I think those are the main ones.

What do I think? I start wishing people wouldn't say it so much. They say it as if its not a curse word, it is a curse word when you take Gods name in vain. Its wrong. And I wish people would stop saying it so much, it especially bugs the stew out of me when Christians say it.

It's an expression used by believers and nonbelievers, and isn't something people take literally. It's just another way of saying "Wow"

It's just an expression. People used to say "for Pete's sake," and I don't know who Pete was. Same kind of thing, I guess.
