I have had very serious depression for around 6 years and have been on many different kinds of mediciation and none of them seem to helpm, so I stopped taking them cold turkey. I also have cut myself for a year and a half, I have had suicidal thoughts constantly for 3 years or so, I have tried to kill myself once and had planned to a few times but got caught before I could do it. I have been to 3 different mental hospitals 7 times. Nothing seems to help, what can I so? Will this go away over time? I am 19 years old now, so maybe as i get older does this just go away? Thanks in advance!

There is a good website you can go to, in fact I frequent all the time, if you see me in there my name is stredoa.

www.realmentalhealth.com

I go to the chat rooms where they have rooms about everything you can imagine for mental health. Everyone normally hangs out in the lobby though just for a heads up, there are wonderful supportive people on there and when I need some support from more than who is around me I go there.

Also girl, when I was 19 I had so many issues I never thought I would live to be 25, but Im on my way there now, I'll be 23 this year, I just got married and Im carrying my first child, so look forward to the future, life will change and you will change with it.

Don't cut yourself, I know its hard just thinking about, I have been tempted to do it several times, but its not worth it, once I got my wedding dress on I looked at my arms and wished I had never done, how I had ruined myself then. But just try that site and I wish you luck, you can IM me anytime if you like. Also, maybe try some anxiety medication instead of depression meds, and maybe try somethign like lamictal, its the best thing I've ever been on that worked.

Don't give up. Things change and a year from now you could be looking back and wondering why you ever felt this way. The problem is that the change doesn't take place without effort and persistence. It must be really frustrating to keep trying new medications and them not working the way you'd hoped. Keep trying though. The advances in this area are coming so fast the answer for you may be right around the corner. Also maybe try some different doctors...and do some research yourself. Sadly the science in this area is new and rarely exact so you have to do a lot of work yourself to find the perfect combination of doctor, therapy techniques and meds that work for you.

I've seen some really impressive results in real live people. I'm giving it a try myself.

Fill your thoughts with more positive ideas. Try reading Dr. Wayne Dyers books. A good one to start with is '10 secrets for success and inner peace'. you can change your emotions by changing your thoughts. No, it isn't easy, but it is our goal. Find a Doc that understands you. Some anti-depressants can cause suicidal thoughts in people in your age group, but most take over 30 days to have an effect, make sure you are giving them a chance to work. If you are, and they still don't help, go back to the Dr. and tell him. He can then adjust the dosage or change the meds. Try to stay positive. There are a LOT OF PEOPLE OUT HERE PULLING FOR YOU!!

Okay, let's sit down at the table together. WHO, IN THIS WORLD, IS BETTER THAN YOU? Absolutely, no one IS. Taking all of those medications, cutting onself and feeling badly, is a state of mind. I frankly love myself and I believe that you care deeply for yourself as well. Ask your doctor, a "trusted doctor", about what alternative medication can be recommended for you and then prescribed immediately. Then remember this, What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:31. The Lord daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. - Psalm 68:19. BEFORE you enter your home or any public building, say quietly "Peace Be To This House." - Luke 10:5. Notice the difference in the atmosphere of those within the premises where you enter. It will be YOU that will be credited for this. Above all, read Psalm 35 (Plead My Cause) - This is a long-winded and extremely helpful psalm. You are asking the Lord to take over your life and protect you from that which is known and that which is unknown. Then, as you are a good soul, the Lord will hear you and will do as you ask. Peace, Love and God Bless.

There are always new medicines to try. You said you stopped taking them. This can be a problem in itself. Start over again and take medicine. I don't think this will just go away. You have patterns of thinking that are causing problems, suicidal thoughts and cutting. You need help with these. There are day treatment programs that you can go to five days a week if that is what you need at this time. Please get the help that is out there.

Depression is not something that goes away within time, it can be a very long process. I know this as I have suffered with it for nearly eight years and still to this day I am on medication and I probably always will be. It helps to have a good doctor and good family support but unfortunatly some people dont always have this. I will tell you that stopping your meds is not a good idea. You really need to go back to your doctor as he/she needs to review you again. Hope everything works out for you. God bless.
