My neighbors found it on their porch and you could tell that it was once owned cause he is so lovable and he he is fixed and everything. We took him in and he won't go in the litter box and he messed up the curtains. He won't walk through dark places at night. And he meows all night unless out Great Dane is in there with him. This is our first time to have a cat and we need help!!!! And you know some body dumped him, cause cats don't run away and everyone knows that. And if they do run away then they always come back for food. HELP!!!!

I would contact your local vets and humane society's as someone may be looking for their pet kitty who did run away (and yes they often do). You also need to have it checked out for illnesses even if you do decide to keep it.

Cats DO run away. Just put this cat outside. You can continue to feed it, but get him out of the house if he's gonna spray everywhere. A neutered tom that sprays is just not going to be a good indoor cat. He may be nice, but when it comes right down to it, he is his own cat and he's going to spray everything in your house. Kick him to the curb before you get attached and your house stinks.

I know this sounds cruel, but better to let a cat go that you will always have trouble with than feel you are stuck with a pet you can't stand. I speak from experience because I can't stand one of my cats and don't really want him, but I've had him since he was just a few weeks old, and he's an indoor cat and throwing him out of the house he probably couldn't really take care of himself, and I'm afraid if I take him to the humane society he'll just get euthanized

First thing I would do is post a found cat add.
We lost a cat a few weeks ago, and are still looking for her, she had just got back from the vet getting her fixed and freaked out and ran away at a truck stop where my husband was waiting for her. Since, she was 6 week old, she was on the truck with him. and he misses her real bad.

Just my opinion, I may be wrong

First, clip the tips of his claws to protect your curtains, they need their claws clipped just like dogs do.

He likes your dog, so let them sleep inthe same room together.

The litter you have may be too smelly, too many of them put perfumes in to disguise odors but some cats don't like that stink so they won't use it. If you get a bag of regular sand, he'll use that, and then you can move him on to other litter once he's got his box habits going strong.

Cats do run away ----especially TOM cats -- Really they go prowling for females -- even those that are fixed.

He sounds like he does belong to someone that raised him outside and has a dog.
He probably did just that --- went on a prowl and needs to hang out to for a while before going home.

I've had thirteen cats and I can tell you, they DO run away. They're not like dogs at all because as a species they aren't fully domesticated and are almost completely self-sufficient. In reality, the cat is choosing to live with you so if it stays, that's good...but, in my opinion you should look for his original owner because they're probably looking fo him.

hey i have a cat and i could give you a little advice first thing you should always take it to the vet to make sure that it does not have rabies and then you take them home and if they do not like it in the house then you should take it out side and see if it likes it out side better and if they keep taring up every thing then you need to put it out side un till it learns its problem.
