This year, as a highschool freshman, I want to try to bring my own lunch to school a lot more than I used to. My reasons for this are:
1.) I am a vegetarian, so I will have few, if any meal options at school.
2.) I want to try to eat healthier meals (for my general well-being and also to stay at a good weight). If I bought lunch, this would be nearly impossabe, since school lunches (at least my school) have always tended to appear good for you, but in fact not be (think whole wheat toast drenched in butter and coated with sugary jam, or rye bread grilled cheese that's extremly greasy).
3.) For conveience.

I'd definately prefer things that just as tasty to eat (when they're a few hours old) at school as they would be fresh at home. Of course, I already have a few ideas (like PBNJ on whole wheat), so I'm looking for a little bit of creativity. So, if you have any ideas for good lunch choices for a health-conchious (spelling?) freshman, please let me know!

By the way, it can be just about anything. I can even work with many meals that aren't for vegetarians because of all the meat substitutes available.

School Lunches are disgusting, since i was 'poor' for three years i either ate a salad with ranch or a soggy hoagie, or i could go to the cafeteria, it was better it was a college campus. anyways.

1. Try salads. The darker the leaves are the better. Just put some vegetables and a low-fat dressing or whatever.

2.Low Fat-Turkey/Chicken Sandwichs- on bread thats good for you..?? meat but i dont know

3. Vegetables and fruits- Carrots, grapes, cucumers w/ ranch are really good(get like a packet of ranch and some cut up cucumbers)

4. Yogurt

if u can get a meat subsitute grilled chicken, get some lettuce, parmesean (optional) and caeser salad dressing and a wheat tortilla wrap.

put the lettuce on the wrap, add the chicken substitute, put on the dressing and cheese. tuck the ends in and then roll it, and cut it in half (you half to cut it in ahlf cause it makes it stay together)

you can mess around with wraps, cause its just wheat tortilla.

you can also try nachos with a low calorie salsa.

fruit salad with a fat free granola bar and diet soda or diet juice.

make some ramen noodles and seltzer water with roasted vegetabe ritz crackers.

you can pack different kinds of salads.

if you like nuts then the mcdonalds fruit and walnut salad is good, except don't get it from mcdonalds-even there "healthy" stuff they coat with sugar to keep fresh. so get fresh apples, green, red and fiji, and purple grapes and walnuts. get a small continer of plain fat free vanilla yogurt and you can dip it. also try this with a blueberry or strawberry flavored granola bar on the side. you can also make this without nuts.

How about...

- Home made gazpacho kept chilled in a thermos
- Hummus and/or tabbouleh accompanied by pieces of pita bread instead of crackers
- Barbecue tofu sandwiches
- Fajita-seasoned veggies (gilled the night before) wrapped in tortillas and seasoned with salsa and/or guacamole
- Can you eat eggs? Hard-boil them then make egg salad sandwiches using a fat free mayo.
- Pasta salad...Add whatever veggies and beans you want to it.
- Chilled couscous...Again you can add whatever veggies/beans you want. Add a little extra curry for some zip.
