The Bible tells us, whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

Of course since we are all sinful that necessarily must be so.

Wickedness is a life lived apart from God.

Consider the Ten Commandments. These are God's words to us. They are perfect, concise and comprehensive to cover every possible area of life.

Unless you are able to perfectly keep every one at all times then you have sinned against God and offended against Him.

God is perfect and will uphold His perfect word, perfectly. His perfect goodness requires Him to. He would not be perfect if He winked at any requirement, nor good if He allowed the badness of any breach to go unpunished.

How then can any escape the righteous and deserved wrath to come?

I'm not a Catholic, sone I can't answer the question specifically. However, I do know that the Bible defines a sin as anythings which contravenes Gods law, so if you want to know what a sin is, read the Bible. The Hebrew/Aramaic part can seem like a mountain to climb (Though it is worth the effort to read it) but all of the sins outlined there are repeated in the Gospels, Act, Letters and Revelation.

A sin as I understood it is something that deviates from the teachings in the Bible or any Holy Book followed by respective religions. We sin in deeds and thoughts. As for me, we only confess to the Almighty Father in prayers and ask Him for forgiveness especially when it is something we cant even confess to the one we have wronged.

"We" don't define any sin. God has already done that for us. It's all in the Bible.
Roman Catholics think that they can define, confess, and forgive sins. (which, by the way is GOD'S JOB)
Repent of your sins to the Father, through the Son, Jesus Christ. There is no need to go to any man for confession and forgiveness of sin! Jesus is our High Priest. Not Catholic priests, and certainly not THE POPE! God Bless

Sin is described in the Bible as transgression of the law of God (1 John 3:4) and rebellion against God (Deuteronomy 9:7; Joshua 1:18).
Some examples are lying, selfishness, gossipping, idolatry, fornication, impure thoughts, homosexual activity, etc.

Sin is the violation in the law of God.

1John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Break the ten commandments and it is a sin. They are pretty comprehensive
Love thy neighbour as thyself is a very good guide.
Very simple but very hard for most of us not to break at least some every day of our lives.

Of course there is the joke one of"Don't get caught, " I think the Almighty already knows

Awesome Question.

"Sin" is an old archery term that means "to miss the mark" As an archer you had one of two choices. 1. Hit the bulls eye 2. Sin

It is a great word to use!

Sin is the transgression of the law, or in other words to sin is simply to go against what God has commanded us.

A sin is going against nature. Our survival instincts are inborn , we have to learn the rest. We know that we would become extinct if we killed other people, hence we don't allow this. We don't like to cheat others because we don't like getting cheated on. Treat others as you yourself would like to be treated.
