Uploading means, that if you are downloading a file, you are also giving pieces of that file to other people so that they can also have the file downloaded 100%. You need many seeders to download something because it will download faster. When you download, you are taking the file from the people that is uploading it. Hope I helped

uploading means you will transfer a file to the internet, or to onother server from your computer
such as uploading a large file or pictures to a host server, if you want to give share to that file.
in short it's a reverse of downloading..

Downloading means taking a file from another computer down to your pc; uploading means taking a file from your computer and sending it to another computer.
Originally your computer was considered a lesser computer that communicated to a more powerful computer (e.g. a servier, mini, or main frame) and the more powerful computer was considered of higher tier and above you. Hence the upload meant sending it UP to the higher tier unit and download meant sending it DOWN from the hither tier unit to your unit.

Torrents work but cutting the file into pieces (Seeds)
As you get one seed (Downloading) you share that with a person who needs that seed. (Uploading)
