Okay I am doing an interior design projects with school.
Basically I have to redesign a room in my home.
I am wanting to put in a new fireplace and one with a real flame.
At the moment we have just an electric fire.
Could a fire with a real flame be put in?
If not what could be put in instead that looked traditional as the house is victorian.

Also how do i go about getting rid of the old fireplace and reinstalling a new one!

Thanks

Electric fire? You mean a picture. There is no heat from those things. Real fire needs a chimney. Electric fire could be put under your bed, or over the TV.
If it is Victorian.....there should be a few real fireplaces with chimneys.
Getting rid of the old fireplace and reinstalling a new one? Three words "Plenty of $$$$$$$$$"

Ok you just remove the fireplace which is fastened to the wall and your replacement will attach in the same way the half must be cemented the real look fire would be gas which has to be plumbed by a corgi registered guy .. but first the chimney needs to be checked for leaks as the fumes can kill if incorrectly fitted u may have to have it lined and the chimney has a special cap on it ...hope this helped good luck..

First of all you need to find out if you have a chimney in the room and if so, is it unblocked?
If not get it swept and install a flue (not needed on all fires)

This will give you a choice of fires.

If there is no chimney but is on an outside wall, you can get a gas fire with a built in extractor which will suck the fumes and blow them outside though the wall.
A good knowledge of electrics and plumbing is a must.
The electrical supply will have to be isolated and then disconnected from the fire.
A new gas run with an isolating valve will have to be run to the new fire and the correct opening will have to be made.
Usually involves a lot of hammering and dust and then bricklaying to make the correct opening.
Then you get a corgi registered plumber in to install the new fire and to test the Gas in the house.
