Not only are they great on pizza.
You want some great appetizers? Put out some crackers, anchovies and some Gorgonzola or blue cheese. Really great.

I don't like to eat them on pizza but a couple added to a stew or a bolognese sauce really help to lift the flavour of the finished dish and even when serving to people who claim not to like anchovies they will never guess the secret ingredient.

I don't like the "idea" of anchovies, however, as you pointed out they do add a "special" flavor to many things we love. In addition to those you mentioned, anchovies is the ingredient which makes "Caesar Salad" delicious!!!!!

most people are off-put by the way food looks. but then again, most people like ceaser salad and tend for forget that there is (grounded)anchovie in the dressing.
if you just don't tell people what they're eating, they won't complain.

and really
the fish taste IS strong
I won't eat sardines because they are not gutted.
I've been tricked ...they taste just fine BUT
