I don't think the tranquilizers are contributing to the increased blood presssure if you're talking about benzo's like ativan, xanax, valium, etc. 140/90 is the point at which most MD's would start you on a BP medication if you have failed dietary and exercise control. If you have not tried that, little things like decreasing the amount of salt in your diet and some light walking may help. Otherwise, it may be time to start you on an antihypertensive.

Well, only your doctor can say whether or not you should be taking medication, but with a BP of 140/90, no matter WHAT age you are, I'd be concerned, and I'm not even a medical professional. Talk to your doctor soon about this.

If you'd rather not go the medicine route, ask your doctor if there are dietary changes you can make to reduce your blood pressure. Reducing salt is one. Eating lots of fruits and veggies is another, as the potassium can counteract the sodium (according to a lecture I was at a few years ago).

There are other things that can help lower the BP, but I hope you have seen a doctor, and he should tell you what to take.

Tips:
1. Exercise.
2. Yoga.
3. Prayers if you believe in it.
5. Visit to library.
6. Some good comedy
7. Meditation.
8. Good company
9. _______ think of few things that puts you in good mood and relaxes you and do that. Add those to this list.

BP has to be rechecked in a relaxed environment. If a high BP is persisting then exercise, healthy diet, relaxation techniques can be tried for a month. If the high BP still persists u will have to start medication.

Sounds like you need to see your MD. Maybe your high blood pressure is from the medication you are taking.

Good luck.
