Men can't shake hand with women and vice versa, its to avoid what could go beyond this. One note about that programme that woman cannot force onto someone else her ways or beliefs this is wrong. She has a cultural understanding of her religion which may confuse you but she is right on this issue.

Every culture has it's own rules of modesty, depending on the society. In India women and men join hands when they greet each other and that is considered modest. In the western countries shaking hands is considered modest, in some other countries, doing everything is considered modest as long as both the man and the woman are willing..
Islam is not just a religion but a way of life, it teaches it believer to be modest, modest in the way Almighty God knows he or she is modest. We have the Hijab in Islam, sometimes referred to as being a way to oppress women by the media.
The Quran talks about the Hijab of men before the women.
'Tell the believing men, that they lower their gaze'
that means whenever a man looks at a women and a shameful thought comes to his mind he should lower his gaze.
Hijab is not only of the eyes, its of the body, of the dress,of the thought and of the tongue and conduct of a person.
Shaking hands with a marriagable person, man or woman is forbidden in Islam. As this is regarded as the 'way' to sin, Islam strikes at the root cause of any problem. If it forbids fornication, rape and adultery, it shows a way, how can these evils be avoided. If every man stops gazing at women with shameful thoughts, and every woman wears the Islamic Hijab, (ie the whole body covered accept the hands up to the wrist and the face) and after that capital punishment to the rapist is implemented. Countries which report to have the highest cases of rapes in the world will take a breath of ease.
It is the fastest growing religion today, and the reason is that, Islam has the solutions to the problems of mankind, it not only shows us what is right, but tells us how to implement what is good...
There are many misconceptions in the minds of the people today, thanks to the media. You can hear many untrue statments about Islam like it was spread by the sword, it degrades women and teaches terrorism...etc....all such questions are covered here http://www.irf.net/book2.zip

you're able to be able to choose to placed on 2 gloves so which you do no longer appear as if Mikel Jackson. i might additionally seem into the scripture a sprint extra solid or seek for suggestion from the pinnacle of your church, i don't sense as though Allah might oppose to greeting others with a hand shake out of courtesies, i think the limit is predicated on the motive of the touch.

it has two reasons, it may break her "wodoo". and Wodoo is part of cleaning that a muslim should perform before praying, which wash your hands, mouth, nose, face, arms three times, then your hair, ears Once, then wash your feet three times. this is the wodoo that every muslim (man or female) should perform before praying. so when a woman touches the strange man, or a man touches the strange woman they should repeat this wodoo again otherwise their prayers aren't accepted.
2) second reason, because he was a strange man, it's dislikable for a woman to touch the hand of a man, which this hand could be used in touching his private areas. and so goes with the muslim man regarding shaking hands with strange woman.
however, if the muslim woman was wearing gloves, or anything that seperates her skin from the man skin, then she could shake the man hands.

It is haraam(forbidden) for a woman to shake hands with a member of the opposite sex who is not a blood relative or husband and it is haraam for a man to shake with hands with a non mahram woman. A mahram is a person who is related to you by blood or marriage.

Married people should not touch anyone of the opposite sex other than their spouse (or close relative). If everyone held by this the problem of adultery would fade away.
