2500 years ago, Hippocrates, the father of nutrition and medicine, laid out the following 10 rules, which have been largely ignored by the medical profession:
1. The natural way is the only way.
2. Treat the cause of an illness, not the symptom.
3. Look to the spine for illnesses.
4. Throw away your drugs and heal the people with food.
5. Most illnesses can be prevented by eating natural foods.
6. A healthy colon is essential.
7. Do not administer dangerous and harmful drugs.
8. Do no harm to your patients.
9. Do not perform surgery for money.
10. The word protein means most important.

what makes me mad is:
It is not profitable in this country for you to be healthy; it is profitable for you to be sick. Look around you and see how many people are taking pharmaceutical drugs and are still sick.

it really depends on what type of medical doctor they are. i seriously doubt a plastic surgeon needs to study nutrition, however, an internal medicine specialist probably should. its just subjective to what kind of doctor it is.

Because it's all about the money. The pharmaceutical industry is booming because Americans are becoming dependent on prescription drugs to keep them healthy. What would happen if we sought natural treatment methods? The pharmaceutical industry would perish. Doctors get paid by pharmaceutical companies to support and prescribe their drugs to patients, even though they know that these drugs are not the answer to their patients' problems. And because most Americans want "quick cures" to all their ailments, and because fast food and junk food have been deeply engraved into our culture and way of eating, it will be difficult to change the way conventional medicine deals with illness.

My recollection of the teachings of Hippocrates is at significant variance with yours. Are you sure you aren't confusing him with David Palmer, the founder of magnetic healing and chiropractic?
I can't speak for every medical school in the country, but we were thoroughly schooled in the principles of nutrition where I studied.
Unfortunately, it is easier to take a pill than to change ones lifestyle. Most of us do discuss lifestyle issues and diet with patients. Perhaps we need to be better salesment.
Finally, there have been great advances in medicine since Hippocrates. Many diseases are now curable, many conditions are now operable, safely and expertly.

Actually, doctors get training in nutrition. They've even taken enough English classes to avoid double negatives! They're also confronted with a protean mix of patients, some of whom are going to listen to almost nothing they say, and some of whom think they can do the impossible with folk remedies that are known to be ineffective. Also, a large part of the prescriptions written are because of a request or expectation from the patient.

I totally agree with you. The problem is people are stubborn and would rather keep eating the fast food that is making them sick and just receive medication rather than eating better and being healthy.
I haven't been seriously sick in years... and guess why? I stopped eating bad foods and stopped drinking diet sodas(aspartame should be made illegal). A healthy diet with a healthy weight definitely equals a healthy life.

You are so right a lot of our so called medical professionals are really caught you in the science of healing using drugs and synthetic medications instead of homeopathic and natural alternatives to healing. I definately think natural healing needs to be a big part of the medical professionals training instead of them being to quick to give you a poison prescription.....a lot of these medications alter your system and make you worse or open the door to other illnesses...
