HI SALMA SHOPLIFTING IS A CRIME,BIG CELEBRITIES LIKE WINONA RYDER HAD TO FACE THE MUSIC AND CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS,AS YOU MENTIONED YOUR FRIEND DOES NOT HAVE CRIMINAL HISTORY AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT A CASE WILL BE HEARD AGAINST HER AND IN ALL PROBABILITIES THE HEARING JUDGE MAY BE LENIENT AGAINST HER,AND WOULD PENALISE HER AND GIVE HER SOME COMMUNITY SERVICE,MAKE SURE YOUR FRIEND ATTENDS ALL COURT PROCEEDINGS AND AS A FRIEND BE WITH HER AND GIVE HER THE COURAGE TO FACE THIS REALITY WHICH WOULD DEFINITELY BE A LEARNING EXPERIENCE TO HER AND A TRUE TEST FOR YOUR FRIENDSHIP WITH HER!!!!

She was treated like a criminal because she IS a criminal. Taking something that is not yours is theft. Call it shoplifting, or whatever, it still is what it is.

As far as the 20 day time lapse, many states have a "statute of limitations" or time frame they must file charges. This usually (depending on the state you live in) can be up to 2 years from the time the crime occured.

She now has a record. What was the question anyway? You cut yourself off.

Your friend is a thief. She will have to go to court, and the punishment will vary depending on how much she stole.

She can get an attorney for free in some cases if she can't afford one.

She should of thought of the downside to shoplifting if she indeed do it. If in fact is was on tape they have their proof.Well all I can say is glad she has you for a friend. She is indeed a criminal if she did shop lift. Good luck to you both.

She is a criminal. If she did the crime, which she did, then she will have to face the consequences. Make sure she goes to court and doesn't run away. You will lose your bail money if she does.

I decline to respond to on condition that it ought to incriminate me. LOL I did a pair cases in my youthful years and that i've got been given caught. I stole stupid stuff like scotch tape. It became lame. I have been given away with it a pair different cases yet I under no circumstances stole something of fee. i became a youthful dumb thief. i think of that taking something that doesn't belong to you is inaccurate. i'm satisfied I have been given caught. My dad had to pass right down to the police station and fetch me domicile. i became extra injury via his unhappiness than my getting caught.
