i wouldnt worry. my son is 20 months old he says a couple of words barely and the rest is just jibberish and a series of screams and ooos and aaas. apparently boys tend to develop later than girls (lazyness i guess). but if your really worried see you health visitor

I know for my daughter, when she was 18 months, she didn't talk that much. Now she is an only child and she was in an in-home daycare with only a couple other kids. I switched her to a daycare/preschool and she has really developed verbally. The move was the best thing I could have done as far as her getting stimulation and education.

Do you talk to him? Are you and your husband big talkers? If you don't talk alot, your children pick up on it and don't either. My husband is not a talker and when our son was around him, he would not talk much. But around me, he never shut up. I finally convinced my husband to start talking to him. When he comes in from work he would sit and tell him about his day and ask my son about his. He would read the mail to him and the news paper and now everything is fine. The other thing is hearing, you son's may need to have that check.

My son is 4 and just talking now. He had constant ear infections that he couldnt seem to ger rid of.. which caused him problems with his hearing.
I would take him to a doctor just to make sure everything is fine. In the meantime you could start teaching him sign. I taught my son sign language so he could communicate with me better till the talking came along.
HE also is in a special preschool that has b een teaching him to talk.... and i have someone coming to the house teaching me some activities to do wit hhim to teach him how to talk as well.
Your doctor might have some suggestions as well. :)
Good luck..
HTH's. :)

My son is 20 months & barely talks either. He basically says a few names (ma ma, da da, etc), says "da" for dog, ba" for ball, "ba ba" for bottle, ca ca & that's really it! He's starting to try to imitate words if I ask him to say them though but can only pronounce the first letter or so.

So, what do you want him to do? Recite the Gettysburg Address?
