Just like the city itself, the subway has all different kinds of people. Most are good, decent folks just trying to get somewhere without having to pay too much. People may complain about it, but it's a huge system that usually works with very few problems. If it's sometimes dirty or smelly, well, that's on the people who are slobs, not on the system itself.

I live in NYC but I don't use it every day...the weather's nice so I try to walk. The subway is practical and it covers the whole city so what's not to like (um, the smell, the delays, etc.)?? The people who use it every day are the daily workers of the city (everything from blue collar to the mayor), and hoardes of tourists.

The subway isn't as strange as its hyped up to be. There are a few characters who ride it regularly, and be prepared to be asked by 5 different little kids to "help support their basketball team" or something and they want you to buy candy. It's a cheap and pretty reliable source of transportation though.

use it every day. It is the best $2 you can spend in the city. Some people complain about it, but for $2, it is AWESOME!!!
