I'm 25, she's 18. Met her at a party and realized we were both members of the same church youth group. Been going out with her since but our friends have a negative opinion. They say the age difference is too much but I think to myself, "here's someone who fits every personality criteria I have. It's stupid not to see that". It's not like she's after the money I dont have or I'm taking advantage of her. Why then do people criticize?
I'm about to confront them but I need to know some reasons why they do it.

There is quite a difference between 18 and 25, but that doesn't always mean you are incompatible.

My husband and I married when I was 25 and he was 20. We've been married for 8 years now. Still happy as ever!

Ideally she should have some more time to get to know herself and what she wants, but she may very well already have a good idea of herself and her needs.

Age appropriateness (between two ADULTS) has to be determined on an individual basis.

After she's 18 then you can legally date without all the consequences. If you feel that this relationship is worth pursuing then go for no matter what others think. The age difference is not too much. If you were in your 50s then that would be a problem but at yall's age its compatible. So tell your friends to back off and to respect your decision to have a relationship with her

That is a pretty big age gap concidering both of your ages. She still has some growing up to do, I don't mean that she is imature it's just that when she is old enough to hit the bar/club scene or go to college and she starts to see a bigger picture you may not fit in anymore so keep that in mind however the older we get the less important that becomes. But who is to say its not working for you 2, your both of age have fun!

I say dont bother confronting them save your energy for your relationship.
you sound happy and if she is really 'the one' what does it matter what other people think?
I would also consider that they are not real friends at all if they are critical of your happiness (maybe they are jealous of your situation?) either way true friends would be welcoming of your new girl and supportive of your happiness instead of being negative..
Dont take any notice of their comments about the age diff my daughter is 18 and I would approve of her going out with a nice 25 yr old guy as long as he cared for her.
Maybe your friends are scared that they are losing you because you will spend time away from them but that is life, find new friends as a couple who will accept you both and dont waste time with people who dont care about your happiness
Good luck you two!

Well, at least it's more socially acceptable for an older man to date a younger woman. I'm 28 and my fiance is 19. I'm constantly being made to feel like a criminal by friends and family for loving him.
While it's true, he pursued me for a time and I was almost unwilling to accept because of the age difference when he first asked me out, I took a chance and in 10 months have never regretted my decision... We are now engaged! :-)
To hell with what everyone else thinks. You really can't help who you fall in love with.
Follow your heart. It rarely leads you wrong.

1. age is just silly numbers to keep track on how long you have been living.
2. in life you don't have much time to do everything you could, so if they dont stop teasing you then their not good friends at all because they should be helping you with your problems not creating them.
3. many people say: "There are many fish in the sea" but maybe that "fish" (the girl your dating) is "that fish" that you MAY spend the rest of your life with.
4. who cares what your friends say, if she is there for you and is THAT GIRL that your looking for then go for it. ask her to be your girlfriend.
sorry i just babbled on & on on the answers. and the listing is weird. it just helps me :D hehehe. GOOD LUCK.

At 18, she's old enough to make her mind up, maybe they think your taking advantage of her being younger but time will prove them wrong if you treat each other right. they may think at 18 she'll want to be with her friends and you'll stop her because you have done all the clubbing scene. so just prove them wrong. its nothing to do with anyone else.

I think its wonderful that youve been so lucky as to find someone that has all those qualities and traits that you're looking for! Dont listen to the negativity, that, to me, is jealousy and resentment that you have been successful in finding someone! Stay strong! When your thirty and she's 23, everyone will be like hes a stud!

Because people will assume she is immature.

She is legal, she is a good person- once they realize you are serious about her they will stop. The same kind of critical comments occur no matter WHO you date.

My husband is 7 years older then me. I am 24. It really doesn't matter- we are great for each other.

Sounds normal to me. I always dated guys about that much older than me, hate to say it but your actually sorta even emotionally and murity wise. But sometimes people do have a point on the guys part in the sense that your more experienced than her in many aspects and she is because of this unable to make proper decisions reguarding her self respect and you know it. BUt whatever its again sorta normal, not always right but normal. goodluck Kim
