Religion is not the problem, its the people who hide behind it.
All of these supposedly 'holy' wars are basically people so insecure in their own beliefs, they think of it all like this. "I'm not really sure if I believe in -insert a praticular God/Goddess- but I can't let anyone know or I could get in big trouble. I KNOW! I'll get everyone to believe in -insert previous God/Goddess- so that way it will prove that -God/Goddess- exsists! And, if anyone disagree's with me they must be evil, so I must kill them and hide the fact that I might agree with them."
It has little to do with what people believe, its the basic idea of "I'm right, your wrong." Religion has nothing to do with it, if it wasn't for that people would still argue, they'd argue about politics or how a person dresses, people fight for the sake of fighting.
Now, lets see your idea of having just one religion, do you know what would happen? Same thing that happened with the catholics and the protestants.
People would worship, but then things would start up again. Someone would want to worship in their own way, and someone else would either say "You aren't worshiping correctly!" Or the person who worshiped in their own way would get it in their head "None of the old ways are right, I must destroy them and start anew or -insert God/Goddess- will be furious!"
There is nothing that will stop the fighting, fighting will always continue, the only thing that changes is what the fighting is over.

Perhaps things are the way they are because worse things would be happening if they were any other way. We think we know what's best, but only God really knows. I'm sure everything is laid out exactly as He planned and for good reason. When we get to heaven and all is revealed, there is no doubt in my mind that our jaws will drop in utter astonishment when we realize that God's plan was absolutely perfect under the circumstances! We will then feel like idiots for having ever second-guessed Him and fall down on our knees in embarrasment. It has been said in the scriptures that "no man shall see God and live". That is how holy He is. Could the opposite also be true? No man shall see Satan and live? Could it be that in this life, God loves us so much that He is actually shielding us from the ultimate evil of Satan? We complain about all the evils here on earth, but I'll just bet God is holding Satan back from unleashing more evil than we can bear. We should be thanking God that we are not completely overcome with evil and that He allows us through His good graces to experience anything good!

People "messes" everything up. Religion is just one of the reasons they use to amass money, power, etc. Religion is not the only thing people wield in order to gain power, China has taken over Tibet because they feel it is part of China. They've driven the Dali Lama out of Tibet, forced the people to give up their language and their culture in the name of communism (Tibet was a theocracy and a very peaceful nation).

Every war? Please,i guess you don't know about the World Wars, atheist and other dictatorships and aggressive Nationalism, Communism,Facism and Nazism.
Even Jihadist Islamism is manipulating Islamic religiosity and fundamentalist sectarianism for ethnic, power, financial, personal and other motives.

No, history has shown that even in places where religion doesn't play any role, humans can still blindly believe in some other type of ideology, whether it's political, racial, or whatever, and do harmful things.
