I have a stack of my kid's report card's from kdg. Some good, some average, some not so good. I feel like I should save them....but for what? Would he really want to see them in years to come? The bad ones? Am I being a pack rat?

Save them- I do. I only save the last one of the year though.
Why? When my parents moved away from the house I grew up in, we found an old report card of mine- and it was amazing to see it. My son loved looking at it and what kinds of grades, "mom got". So, I save the last one of the year and file it away.

Not at all! They have sentimental values -- keep them, for sure!

As for their use, my mother-in-law did the nicest thing with my husband's old report cards: She made a scrapbook of them (including some of his schoolwork like reports and photographs) and gave it to him at his college graduation!

We chuckle over his grades today (good and bad) and laugh over how some things just don't change (his 2nd grade teacher gave him a "D" for keeping his desk messy. His office desk, to this day, is still a huge mess!).

They're great tools for reminiscing and something that future generations can look upon as an informal family "history" book!

I saved the first report card and the last report card that my son got from kindergarten last year. I plan on saving the first and last report card from each year and putting them in a scrap book for him.

My parents kept a scrap book for each of us kids. This included report cards for every grade, awards, pictures that came out in the newspaper of our games etc.. The list is long.
I find it a real treasure to have and look through it with my own children.
I have done the same for each of mine. I include the good and the bad as my parents did.

It wouldn't hurt to save them. He probably would want to see them in years to come. I'm probably a pack rat because I've kept most of the papers from school ever since I was in 5th grade. It never hurt me.

I am guilty of being a packrat myself and for years saved report cards, birthday/christmas/valentines/easter cards, and high school momentos. I still have a shoebox full of the high school momentos. I decided to finally rid myself of everything BUT the high school momentos. If you really do want to save it though, to show him later how far he came academicaly then scrapbook them. Memories are precious.

I laminate them and put them in scrapbooks... or just put them in a photo album... makes for great memories your kidds will be stonished to see how they did....definatly not a packrat thing...packrat would be wanting to keep them on the kitchen table for years.
