There are doctors who specialize in treating sleep disorders.
You might run this by your personal physician next trip.
Good luck.

You can try simple things for improvement and see if they work. Try not to watch anything really graphic before you go to sleep such as the news or a scary movie this will stimulate your mind more, have your thoughts racing and make it harder to fall to sleep because of your thought process. You can also sit peacefully for about 20 minutes, close your eyes, listen to soft music and picture a place you would enjoy being or something that makes you happy. Try journaling right before bed to release all those built up feeling. Now they will be put on paper and not bottled up in your head to dwell over and think about.
Some medications can also keep you wake if they are taken to late in the day, so if you are taking meds try to rearrange them for an earlier time.
If none of these things work you may need to get a sleep aid from your doctor for a short time

Our bodies do have that self healing power for minor things, however you need to help. do sleeping "excersises" first create a routin where you are going to sleep every day at the same day and waking up at teh same time. This will help your clock to get back in tack, sometimes it will be very hard to sleep at the same time so try not to occupy your self with something entraining for you, rather read a boring book, look at the new ppare's section that you don't like or watch tv but a show that will not cause any excitment-I used to find political debates the most boring thing- whatever you do do it from your bed, do not do any shores or anythign that will keep your body active. I would also recommend to to to naturalist store and try to find teas that would help you relax, but dont' abre the herbs either!..... You have a good night ;)

There is a book you have to read about "sleep debt"
how it accumulates and affects you in the long term
you can do some things to try to get better sleep like have a regular schedule, only use the bedroom for sleep(no tv!!) dont exercise 1 hour before going to bed and dont drink anything with caffeine within 6 hours of bedtime.
if that doesnt work try and take benadryl an hour before bed with a full glass of water ( it drys you out)
then if you stillhave problems consult a doctor. you might need to do a sleep study to check if you have sleep apnea or some other problem going on

Well, this can be a slippery slope. Have you tried the steps to get a good sleep? Not eating before bed, No TV in the bedroom, Getting enough exercise during the DAY, ( not before bed) . Keeping the room cool, dark. If you have tried all of this then you may think of talking to your Doctor about your insomnia. The other thing to ask yourself is if there is anything bothering you that may be keeping your Mind awake with worry, fear, racing thoughts etc. Then the underlying issue may be something else. Good Luck

Like everything, we humans are creatures of habbit and once you break the cycle you need to do something to get back on track.
Question, do you feel normal, have enough energy during the day?
Do you take a cat nap 15 to 30 minutes at some point during the day? Cat naps are very good for you, like a quick re-charge.
Are you over weight?
If you are over weight and lack energy during the day your problem could very well be sleep apnia, you are waking up hundreds of times during a sleep cycle without knowing it, this is due to a breathing restriction...and can be life threatening yet it is very common and easily resolved.
If none of these are you, then you may be like many people, you may simply not require much sleep.

You should see a Dr. (specifically a Sleep Specialist) Sometimes a sign of sleep apnea is not getting restful sleep. There are other signs too (loud snoring for example). There are other sleep issues too, such as insomnia that can be a real problem. I've had sleep problems for years, and the best thing I ever did for myself was to find a specialist that could actually help me.
So, I would encourage you to do the same!

One way is to try to relax so the body can get into a deep sleep pattern. Melatonin is a good way to help your body produce seratonin . Seratonin is the "feel good" hormone that takes away the tension and lets your body relax. It will not make you feel dopey as it doesn't dope you! Ever notice how tired some people get after Thanksgiving turkey dinner? That's from seratonin......turkey is a major source of seratonin also! So that is how you will feel after taking melatonin.

It sounds like you are stressed - try a day out, a massage, day at the spa, do something where you can ware yourself out so you can get that rest.
However it has been stated that 5 minute naps gives you more rest and energy than an 8 hour night.
If you aren't feeling tired or exhausted than it really isn't a problem.
