NO NO NO NO...NOOOOOO
Swimming in contacts (pool and natural bodies especially) is a set up for eye infections, including severe, vision-threatening bacterial, fungal and amoebal infections of the cornea. It should never be done; even wearing contacts in the shower is not advisable. It does not matter that "your friend/mom/great uncle's nephew always does it and has been fine" - everyone says that till they get a problem. If you swim, wear glasses or nothing; prescription goggles are a good idea. I suppose daily disposable contacts are less of a threat, but any kind of lens compromises your ocular surface, and even brief exposure to pool, lake, and ocean water exposes you to infectious agents.

It's possible but, as a rule, not a good idea.

Two issues: risk of losing them, risk of contamination by chemicals or bacteria.

Options:
1) Accept blurry vision.
2) Prescription swimming goggles (quite cheap: the approximate Rx ones available are fine for almost everyone)
2) Use daily disposables and throw away after leaving the pool.

Under proper diving masks for scuba work etc. soft lenses are fine, but again for avoiding contamination daily disposable lenses should be preferred.
If used frequently, a spectacle Rx corrected diving mask would be the simpler option, though initially costly.

You may but you should not. I do it but not for long periods. If you're, say going to the beach, I would not wear contacts. Laying out by the pool, and going for a short swim, is not too bad with contacts. hope I helped. take care of your contacts.
