I always see a lot of people here answering evolution-questions with the statement 'If evolution would be true, why don't we see any signs of evolution anymore?"

Of course, like any sane person, I completely agree with that.

I was wondering however, the average height of men over the years in history is this:

2000 : 183 cm
1920: 172 cm
1720: 163 cm
1260: 156 cm

33,000 years ago the average height was only 129 cm.

(Sorry, I really don't know anything about the American measurement system, but trust me: 129cm is less than 182cm)

Of course, I know evolution is all nonsense, we all know that. But I truly wonder why God keeps making us taller. Anybody who can enlighten that for me?

Actually, Marky, this isn't a result of evolution, which implies a change in the frequency of genes that influence height. Evolution doesn't work that quickly.

Chinese young people today are several cm taller than their parents, although there is only minuscule change in their genetics.

The main difference has been improvements in nutrition and health care of children. This has ben most apparent in countries that have developed rapidly during the 20th century, improving the quality and reliability of the food supply and medical system. A 21st century person gowing up in 13th century conditions would on average only attain 13th century average heights.

Evolution can be observed, but is very slow.

I think it is more to do with awareness of better nutrition than any plan of God's, and children are growing taller, stronger and healthier..

People who were born during the last war came into a world of rationing, and had to do without many things, including a wide varied diet. Go back even further, and while they may not have been humgry, food was very basic.

Older folk still alive remember meat just once a week, and potatoes and buttermilk were the usual everyday fare. People grew some veg and kept hens for eggs, but there was none of the variety we know now. They had never seen bananas or oranges until these started being imported. When I was young, yogurt was a rarity only just coming on the market

I saw a reprint of a newspaper page from the last war. It advocated roast for Sunday, cold for Monday and Tuesday, and the rest of the week bread and dripping from the meat. Utilizing every scrap. Who uses dripping on their bread now? It is probably scraped off the plate and put in the trash, now we have plentiful butter.

For my breakfast, I make a smoothie using 7 or 8 different fruits, some local but some imported. When I was a child, the breakfast choice was porridge or do without, and some children had rickets. There is no excuse for dietary deficiencies nowadays, and it is a very different world.

Thank God.

The best and the bravest win the day and the wusses go home and cry. Polygamy makes sense from an evolutionary point of view. If you're the biggest and smartest guy on the block it benefits your species to have you spread the genes around. In nature this happens all the time.
The whole "survival of the species" thing.

Astounding that you did all that research, and came up with an invalid conclusion!

By all means, believe in whatever deity or deities you want, as well as in whatever "Holier-than-thou Truths" you want to believe in, but, don't close your mind to that which has been scientifically proven (of course, if you don't believe in "Science", then, please, donate your computer to a worthy charity!). ;)

To put it simply, the ability to obtain food, in both greater quantity and quality, has enabled people to grow taller over the centuries. If there is less food, we cannot grow as well. We adapt to our surroundings. This is evolution in its simplest form (i.e., in this instance, no mutations, per se, were required; of course, Lord only knows, that I can't say whether this is true for everybody!). Of course, people will also benefit in that their brain capacity will be increased (well, maybe not EVERYbody!). ; )

"There were giants in those days" the Bible states; and there are giants today. We tend to view everything in light of American society. We are a melting pot - and there is the key. Thousands of years ago, travel wasn't exactly swift so migration took generations to accomplish. Intermarriage with different people of different nations introduces different genes in biological and physiological makeups. For example, my wife has Iroquois Indian in her heritage (they grew to be 7 ft tall) and married me of Italian heritage (fairly short). I was the tallest in my family; she was the shortest in hers. Although she was a couple inches taller than me our boys turned out to be 6 ft tall (certainly not because of my heritage). It makes sense that the world's population over 100s of years has progressively gotten taller (especially in the western world and America)

And if he was going to do that you would think he would have the sense to provide stronger backs. Do you have any idea how many suffer from back pain do to this walking upright with insufficient infrastructure nonsense. What is wrong with this god? Why can't he get off his high horse and fix a few things down here. I would vote for impeachment. Who's with me?

Maybe God needs to talk to the presidents of the airlines who keep making the rows narrower and narrower!

over the years recently they found that chemicals in some junk foods have attributed to some growth. Although not proven yet its just a theory they have been working with.

First of all, it isnt God, its us doing it.
In order to raise cattle faster, they put Growth Hormones into beef and other animals. Additionally, they inject animal proteins and such into vegetables as they're growing. The result is, our kids (in their natural growing stage) are consuming a lot of growth hormones which results in taller and taller kids.
Scary, isnt it!
