You are absolutely right. The war in Iraq is Sunni v. Shia same as N v. S Vietnam.

To those that say the aftermath of vietnam was millions dead you are liars. Hundreds of thousands of South Vietnamese officials, particularly ARVN officers, were imprisoned in reeducation camps after the Communist takeover. Tens of thousands died and many fled the country after being released. Up to two million civilians (mostly Chinese) left the country as Vietnam had a conflict on its northern border anfter entering Camobodia to suppress the Khmer Rouge inthe 1980's, and as many as half of these boat people perished at sea. But the Vietnamese did not kill their own people. This is propaganda to support saying in Iraq.

Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, fell to the Khmer Rouge on April 17, 1975. The US had installed a puppet dictator in 1970 by destablizing Prince Sihanouk. Millions died at the hand of the Khmer Rouge because of the US destabilization of that country.

Similar story in Laos.

Over 60 perecent of American want out. 72 percent of the Soldiers in the miltary want us out. 58 percent of the marines want us out and a majority of the Iraqi parliment wants us out. So why are we still there?

Though communist, Ho Chi Minh was more of a nationalist and wanted a united Vietnam. Contrary to the domino theory of the day, the North Vietnamese had no intention of spreading their campaign (except for a brief invasion of Cambodia in 1979).

The terrorist that attacked us on September 11, 2001, attacked us directly. They are not fighting over independence or a nationalist creed. They are fighting us because they hate us. The question remains if the war in Iraq really has anything to do with the war on terror.

Um...no, you clearly don't understand history or current events.

In Vietnam there were two very distinct sides: the communists and the capitalists. When we pulled out of Vietnam the communists were able to militarily overtake the country.

Even though they used a lot of geurilla tactics during the war with the U.S. they still focused on military targets, not terrorism.

In Iraq, there is no one clear enemy. If we pull out there will be numerous factions fighting for power, none strong enough to defeat the rest. They will not limit thier attacks to military targets the way the Vietnamese did, since while we're still there they are murdering eachother on a daily basis.

If we leave Iraq prematurely, there will be violent chaos for a very long time.

Here is the difference betweeen Vietnam and what we are dealing with in Iraq.

Vietnam was war between the North and South Vietnam.

North Vietnam was not part of the a group that wanted to have their religion to rule the world.

North Vietnam never attack the US like the radical Muslims.

Watch and review and see what we are facing.

Because it seems you have forgotten.

Now with Iran supply weapons and training this is not just an Iraq problem.

The North Vietnamese would have and were perfectly content with the US leaving South Vietnam. When the US left South Vietnam the North Vietnamese didnt attempt to attack US interests elsewhere.

Our current enemy does not have the objective of gaining territory. Instead they wish to disrupt another culture globally.

Their arguement is with a way of life which they feel is wrong. They will end your life simply because you go to a different church, or dont go to church at all. They feel that there should be no seperation between church and state, they think that seperation between church and state is evil. Seperation between church and state is one of the founding principles of the US.

They feel that all society should be governed according to their own interpretation of the Koran, even other Muslims are not free from their hatred if those Muslims do not worship Allah according to their own beliefs.

This is not a war over territory, our enemy is not concerned with that.

As long as the enemy wishes to attack our way of life and are willing to kill innocent people to further their cause we will be at war with them.

There is no correlation between the current conflict in Iraq, and Vietnam. Attempting to make such correlation constitutes a clear misunderstanding of the enemy, and is logically false.

Did you forget to mention the Millions that died after we left ? The war against terrorism is a world wide event. The war in Vietnam, which the French gave us, was isolated to that country only. Also, that war started in the sixties and ended in the seventies.
