As an atheist and an academic, I really dislike religious zealots that fail to debate the subject of God's existence with me. I have, never, in all my life, experienced such complete loyalty and blind obedience to a religious dogma as when I'm faced with fundamentalists from any religious affiliation that attempt to brainwash others.
As a human beings, it is our obligation to weigh the facts and I am saddened that once people become believers they can deny the existence of fossils, primates, Darwin etc.

We "just know" a lot of things in life. Science usually catches up or corrects it. We trust things every day that we don't understand. We assume they work because someone told us they do or because we saw someone else using it. Same thing. Some people have met others or seen things that make them believe. So what?
I guess what I'm saying is, I like the facts as much as the next person. But to say that faith is something silly or bad, is making fun of everyone. Everyone has had faith at some point in something.
Somebody sat there looking at the moon and said to themselves.... I bet we can walk on it. Seems nuts. But science caught up and we did.
Not saying that one day science will prove there is a god. Just saying that a lot of important things that are now normal to us, were once a ridiculous belief by someone.
So cut them some slack :)

We know God exists based on evidence. If you look at the the world based on the scientific evidence we have today, one cannot conclude it happened by chance. The question is who is the Creator? We as Christians believe that the God of the Bible is that Creator. It is not blind faith that this is the true God but it is faith rooted in evidence. We can demonstrate that the Bible is divine rather that human in origin. We know this based on the manuscript evidence, archeology, predictive prophesy and statistical evidence. All of this is available for anyone to research. The question is not whether there is evidence but rather a person chooses to look at the evidence and believe that the Bible is true.

If people believe that god exists in their personal lives, I don't really have a problem with it. But when the beliefs of a religion begin to influence my life, I DO have a problem with it.

Whether life provides clues to some about the existence of God is solely a personal experience and in no way should effect your beliefs of non belief!
Do you believe that you don't believe?

I mean, God is something for people to believe in, I feel like "just know"ing that god exists may be a good or bad thing.
Faith is really important to some people, so yes, I do love them.

The beauty of our faith is that we also know God loves you!
And He is ready to bring you back home, whenever you are ready.
But He will never force you.
And you must take that first step.
(the other thing ooari and others don't understand is, once you take that first small step of faith, everything make sense; God fills your heart and mind with a knowledge of the truth. We can't explain it to you and it doesn't make any sense to you....because you have to take that first step. Once you do, the proof of His existance is all around you and in you. But until you do, you will never see any proof).

I answered a question similar to this awhile back...
I would LOVE to give you the experience I've had in "knowing God"...but it is impossible. It is like trying to tell you what it feels like when my kid sister puts her arms around me and tells me how much she missed me.
Or like trying to tell you what it was like when my little grand son presented me with a boquet of roses that he had spent every dime he had to buy.
As much as I would love to share those joyful moments with you, I cannot...I cannot give you the feeling that it gave me.
It's a poor comparison, I know, but there simply is nothing I can put into words to even come close to the experience I am talking about.
I have no idea at all why some people come to this "knowing" while other people can't seem to quite reach. It may have something to do with being open to it, but then, there have been a few who swore they would NEVER accept the Lord who have fallen to their knees in joy when He did come to them.
*shrugs*
I think of Him, on the hill, overlooking Jerusalem, mourning "How often I would have gathered you to me, as a mother hen gathers her chicks...but you would not..."
NOTE...Yes, I know, I also have a problem with "holier than thou" Christian attitudes, and overbearing sanctimoniousness.
The problem is, there is just no way to even TRY to explain to you what it is like to know God without coming off as being "sanctimonious"...believe me, I've laid awake many a night trying to figure some way to do it, but it has totally escaped me.
If, perhaps, YOU might be able to think of a way to do this, withoug offending anyone who might ask me, I would be thrilled to hear from you.
Because, please believe me when I tell you, nothing in this world would make me happier than to embrace a new brother or sister in Christ...and KNOW that this one will not die!
God bless you, whether you believe in Him or not!

only two choices of what happens when we die.
1) we decompose thats the end ain't no more, the void.
or 2) a part of us soul/spirit goes on, has free will.
if two is true where we go when we die is where were before we were born. free will and all. some souls choose with their free will to return here. Those of us that claim to just know , have a memory/sortof.
very interesting sight: http://thebridgeseries.tripod.com
