My boyfriend and I are buying a house together, and the closing is tomorrow! I've been meaning to pick up something to commemerate the occassion, but haven't done it yet. Any suggestions on something we can use, but that will have some special meaning. Its our first house. Thanks!

For those who commented on our not being married before purchasing a house together please mind your own business. That was not that questions I asked and therefore should not have been involved in your answer. Why do two people who love each other have to be married to share their lives with each other!

Frame a picture of the two of you, and hang it.
Buy the traditional gifts for a house warming, a loaf of bread, salt, wine, a candle.
A keepsake that you will treasure forever, have it engraved with "our first house." There are lots of items out there that are poems, or blessings for a new house. Go shopping.
I liked the plant idea, and growing together. Very nice.
Buy a tree for the yard, fall is a good time to plant one. Pick one of your choice, or something that flowers every year. Go together and pick one out, if you wish. Since fall [close enough]is when you closed on the house, a kind that turns color in the fall would be nice.
A bottle of wine or champagne, a set of wine glasses. If you prefer beer, same thing, some nice steins, and a nice lager.
For my first place, every purchase was an occasion. I took my Mother with me to buy my first vacuum! Even my first trip to the store to stock up on cleaning supplies, my first kitchen gadgets, was a huge deal.
Something personal would be nice. When you get handed the keys to the house at the colsing, have a keychain ready, it could say whatever you want. Mike and Sara's house, or 385940 Oak street is ours! Though this is Sunday, and the closing is tommorow, you might have to delay the giving a bit.
Congrats! I have never forgotten my first house, and the feeling of belongingness it gave me, you won't either!

a plant of some sort is always nice, just be sure to research on lighting/water/keeping it alive concerns first.
perhaps some kind of plaque / framed art piece that says something along the lines of "home sweet home" or "god bless this mess".
if you want to go practical, something for sorting mail? key hook? coat rack? umbrella stand?
though you should really just throw a party and let other people worry about getting you something.

You don't buy yourself a housewarming gift. Buy a bottle of champagne and celebrate your new beginning.
BTW, it is such a mistake to purchase a house without a marriage. What happens if one dies, who gets the house? Foolish.
