Typical of people who have never studied or conducted any research of history. I rather doubt the people who were and still are decrying the atomic bomb attacks ever take a look at the atrocities that the Japanese committed against the Chinese or remembers the comfort women that were forced into sexual slavery for the troops or has ever seen a photo of a Japanese soldier beheading an Australian POW with a samurai sword much to the delight of the onlookers or even takes into account Pearl Harbor. Remember that the Japanese wanted to create their own empire during this time and that they would have done anything to get it. Amy, you need to do some research before making your statements.

That being said, the atomic attacks unleashed a hell on this earth that can never be taken back. From what I gather it was the best decision that could have been made at the time and if I were in the position I don't know that I could have made the choice to unleash such a horror as the atomic bomb. In war no one is innocent and I think it's silly to contend that only the U.S. would be guilty of war crimes.

This is a ploy by the war loosers to discredit the American Military. In actuality the atomic bombs dropped on Japan were strategically and humanely sound. A Ground attack on the main island of Japan would have caused more deaths than the bombs did. I wasn't much of a Truman fan but he did the right thing then. We just need someone with the resolve to take aggressive action and do something similar now. Look at the Vietnamese lives, Cambodian Lives and Laotian lives we could have saved in that region with a similar strike on Hanoi early in the Viet Nam conflict. If a war is worth fighting it is worth winning.

For Amy, you may not be able to right a wrong in that manner but you can preclude and prevent future wrongs by neutralizing the perpetrators. The Death sentence is a deterrent to at least one, the one that suffered the sentence.

Something had to be done. Had we not drop the two bombs we and Japan would have lost more people that the two bombs combined. The war would have lasted more yrs. Germany was working on Jets and would have used them against the US, Japan was also working on things. It was a matter of time and someone had to give. The US had more at the time along with the support from the puplic and that is something our troops need more of now. war is not great but it is necessary at times.

WW11 as indeed is every conflict dating back from the 2 gulf wars (before Iraq) past history. Albeit their right or wrongs, many ordinary brave men, from all countries, creeds, cultures, backgrounds and classes, paid with their lives or were crippled and/or maimed for the remainder of their lives.

From from the ashes in their countries all took head of the savage loss's and gainfully moved to rebuild their lives and countries, quietly praying their children would not have to endure the same torment that almost all generations are inevitably faced with.

WW11 is history. At its conclusion war criminals were tried (and as we know too many of the condemend and guilty went free, remaining secure in their many environments).

What today, as pointed out here by others, is the sense of people, who never experienced war, are probably college students and a pain in the *** to boot, hoping to engender by resurecting such idiotic nonsence they are not in any way informative of?

Trendy is it. Such is the media mantle that now permeats our lives and readily sets forth to determine what should be opinionated and what should not!

Not forgetting the"trial by media" they immediately set in motion to judge those who they assume are suspect, are involved, albeit without either evidence or proof! Its good for copy. Its character assassination, its criminal, and it encourages the many to gosip and slander those who in manys ways cannot protect themselves!

(Look what is being done to the Mcanns!)

Leave it. Live for today. The future doesn't look too bright and wars are by no means over. The problem is, the cause of them is never settled in total and they again and again come back to haunt us!

Take the Tailban as an example!

& look to Islam whose determination to dominate this world - will surely engender a war like no other!

It's called liberal historical revisionism and they're out to change history. Their main goal is to make everybody believe that any past, present or future military action by the US was a crime.

That way instead of spending money on national security the money can be spent on their socialist agenda. Voters would also elect people like Nancy Pelosi or Hillary for President if the focus on national security were to be shifted...

Much trendier to call the U.S. guilty of war crimes for the invasion of Iraq. Japan is just getting a free ride on this.

Well, for those "Trendies" who do so, it is quite a dilemma since it was Harry S Truman (a liberal democrat) who authorized and approved the use of the atomic bombs.

Seems like it.
The death and destruction would have been far higher if we'd gone in with a conventional invasion.
Some estimates as high as 4 million,mostly civilians,in a 2 year fight.

..it's trendy to blame America for EVERYTHING! Even many living in the US blame America for everything! Do you wanna know why?? Because we no longer have enough Americans living in America. We have too many illegal aliens who don't give a crap about our country and are here only to steal what they can. Add this group to the growing number of established America haters and it's not hard to see why.......

it shouldn't be. The bombs put an end to a long war against a country who was not going to end hostilities even though it was clear they could never win. It could have dragged on for years costing a lot more lives.
