anyone with half a brain is afraid to go into compton and lynwood during the night time hours. I have worked in the area extensively and limit my time in the area to between 8 and 10 in the morning. I have been stopped at gun point when the brothers wanted to know what I was doing driving around taking pictures. I flashed them My busness card and told them who I was working for and they let me go my way. Hair raising experience. I was a real estate appraiser. That being said the cops do respond to calls in the area but they go in force and don't screw around. fear? hell yes, Its a war zone.

Compton used to be a beautiful city with an airport and college. Big business was invited to put warehouses there along Artesia Blvd and got tax incentives. By chance it has the highest percent of Afro-Americans west of the Mississippi and everyone was proud of their homes and communities. It just developed a bad element over the years and everyone heard of the shootings. Lack of realistic education in the schools and after school programs led some residents astray. The LAPD has only been scared to go into one place.. the area of Normandie and Florence. They didn't go in there and before they knew it half the county was set on fire in the second L.A. Riots. I I have seen the Sheriff go on a call in Compton for loud parties, etc and they bring in many cars. The real problem is gangs, drugs and gangs based on drugs. Another problem is initiation into the gangs which include shooting someone even cops. Residents then become cop haters...until the residents really need one.

The LAPD isn't responsible for Compton. That's Sheriff's Department territory ever since the Compton Police Department was disbanded. The Sheriff's have slightly different procedures in Compton as far as how many units are dispatched to certain calls, but in general there are no major differences. It's a job not a choice and you just do it no matter where you are assigned.

Where are you getting your info from? There are at least five Police Sub Stations in South Central alone.

Second LAPD is crossing their boundary line when they come into Compton. Compton has the Sheriffs Department.

LAPD has no business in Compton,The LA County Sheriffs Dept. has the task of patrolling Compton, and they are not afraid of gang bangers. The city has its problems, but it is not what some of the above folks have tried to make it out to be.Some people have to live there

I don't believe they even have jurisdiction in that area. The LAPD patrols the City of Los Angeles. Compton is in Los Angeles County, but not within their boundaries.

I have friends that are Sheriffs and firemen in Compton. Its like any other city. It has its good parts and its bad parts. You have been influenced way to much by the media. You can't believe everything you see and hear.
